Stumbled my way to track 10...I've heard enough :unimpressed:

This chick is not a good rapper man. Doesn't have the voice for it, her lisp doesn't work in her favor like G Rap, her delivery is about as flat as the bottom of a 2 liter, and on the low, this chick is name dropping more than Game. Ok, I can understand the tracks being named after prominent black female figures/entertainers and injecting references in songs....but that's quite literally ALL she's doing. It's not compelling, it's you doing a few Google searches and looking for a half-assed punchline. and yes, she got some dudes mixed in here too. And yes....she's still all over Jay's dikk.

She wants to show a proud black woman SO BAD and on the surface, that's a beautiful thing, but there's nothing beyond that. No depth, no insight, no nothing. Just a hashtag and a dark colored emoji fist is about all it's worth on here.

Beyond that, Maya was the only beat that caught my ear but I'm not putting up with this broad to hear the rest.

9th alienated Little Brother and most of the Justus League for this?

Good album, 4 mics, some great and classic songs, take off some tracks and could maybe have been a classic.

What's fukked up is that it could've worked if she was a more capable rapper. For at least half the album anyway.

You see the tracklist and you think, "OK, the woman named is going to be the overarching theme of the song, or maybe she's going to rap from that woman's point of view, or maybe even give a rundown of who that woman is," kind of like how Armand Hammer told the story of Willie Bosket without ever dropping his name:

But nah. You get the same old Rapsody contrived wordplay with too many references to count, a lot of times repeating themselves throughout the project (example: how many times is she gonna reference Set It Off on here? Cleo was a couple songs ago and she's still going).

But hey, I'm sure this'll be up for another well deserved Grammy nomination so what do I know? :mjlol:

You nikkas really gotta grow the fukk up man. Criticizing a female related anything does not mean "yawl hate wimmin :damn:"

That line of thought is about as basic as Rapsody's songwriting capability.

I'm sure that the people who don't like her stuff have their reasons. But don't try to act like her being a woman in rap doesn't work against her. That's how y'all usually out yourselves, through denial.

There are dudes in the game far less talented that don't get the same criticisms because they dudes.

Rap is a great rapper.

The content is important, necessary, carefully considered, appreciated.

The music itself seems flat. I hear this and I'm encouraged to reach back to NoName's album and the music is just more involved or invokes more feeling while delivering similar content and themes. To that point, Rap has to be careful to not fall into that Talib, Lupe other "conscious" rapper trap of "hey, what I'm talking about matters. So like it :unimpressed:". It can get heavy handed at times, to me anyway, and I like shyt like that often times. But the album is conceptual in that way so it's fine.

This has some repeatable spots though. I'll give more chances for sure cause she's a good enough rapper to warrant it.
