I personally never heard it be chopped that way. And that is why 9th chop game is unmatched imo. He can take song and chop it up from multiple parts and create a new composition. Like you will recognize the flip but the parts he take are not the obvious 4/8 bar open loop.
:leon:I've always liked his chop game because he definitely will re-arrange things and keep a lot of the musicality intact. But I've never heard anyone compliment it that much. Everyone rags on his drums but rarely do his chop skills get praised.

Khrysis as a counter example will do the same thing but it sounds less melodic (most of the time) and there are more interruptions and stutters. Like it sounds...choppier, to state the obvious. But that's a stylistic choice that Khrysis prefers. 9th has mentioned before that he likes to make chops that sound like loops.

Are there any other examples of 9th beats like this that stick out in your mind? I'm not trying to bug you, but I'm curious now what some of your favorite beats are of his. I thought his 3rd beat (out of 4) on his Rhythm Roulete episode did a great job of doing what you said. He takes 2 totally different parts of the song and combined them.

Time-coded for 6:17 and then at 8:48 he does another flip of the same song for a 2nd beat.

Here are a couple examples that come in mind.

That flip is not as easy as it sounds, trust me!

BTW if you wanna hear the original version of Think Good Thoughts, enjoy!

The Allies (Big Remo and Novej) - Sweet Love. This was a duo he got signed to Interscope and Dr. Dre around 2006, but they got into a car accident, Novej found God, and started doing gospel rap, so the duo broke up. Remo would go on to sign to Jamla.
MEGA

Funny you mention Threat. I remember people saying that was such a simple beat after it came out and was telling people it was a way harder flip than it sounds like, and was daring people to try and do it the same way.

Did Jay give 9th like 30 minutes to make that beat too?

He didn't give hm long breh. he didn't explicitly say he had a time limit, but he listened to 29 beats, and then said "Okay those are dope, but I got an idea to do a spiritual sequel to what Big and Preem did with Unbelievable. I got another R. Kelly joint. Here's the CD-R. I gotta go do something, but I'll be back in 30 mins to an hour, and you can play me what you got for me when I get back."

So would he have finished the song if 9th hadn't finished the beat on time? I don't know. Was it a test? I don't know. But I talked to other people that were there besides 9thnd they said it did seem kind of like a test, on some "Okay youngin', shoot your shot let's see what you got."

Supposedly these 3 beats were the ones 9th played him that he was feeling the most.

Were these tracks part of the 29 beats that were on the tape?

Girl was not. Girl was made about 1 later.

Smoke the Pain Away was not one of them but Alright was.

There was one he made after Black Album dropped that would've been fire. It had this vocal sample that was singing "You can't taaaaake my family jewellssss" and 9th was hoping it could've been a concept joint about the Rocafella chain and what it meant to Jay. Bleek ended up using it for 534 but I'm not sure what happened to it. Matter of fact, there was an idea early on for 9th to produce all of 534. This was another one of the the beats he played for Jay, and Bleek recorded something over it but it also didn't make 534 album. Maybe because of the Bob Marley sample? 9th and Bleek did more than just the 2 that came out for sure.

Did any of those other Bleek joints leak at all?
