I liked Ras verse better
Here's my theory. Whoever the most ardent Ras Kass supporter at the Source was, called up Ras, told him the shyt was crazy and said something like "this shyt ahould get 6 mics!" I highly doubt that there was a serious discussion amongst the whole mind squad about whether they were going to award the album 6 mics.
I don't know bro that's not how he made it sound in the interview. He made it pretty clear it was going to get 6 mics, though your theory is very plausible.

Mobb I fukks with you we on the same wavelength but you gotta think NAture of the Threat was a song nikkas heard before..and fukk the beats lyrics pound for pound no album is touching that shyt. nikkas complain about the beats but never the rhymes..Ras fukked up he signed with Priority being loyal instead of Def Jam where he belonged. He sign East he getting 6 and that push easy...you gotta zone to that shyt.
That album was ahead of it's time but that's what I try to explain to these dumb fukks you had 40 albums on the same calibur not singles, albums you had too be nice.
Yeah it would of been Ras first album is light years above X's shyt wouldn't been fair...tell me listening to the flow who more polished....

he didn't say anything about the actual music changing tho all he said was that they heard Nature Of The Threat & "said they were gonna give me 6 mics" so it sounds like they were hype as fukk off Nature... and probably said something like "if the rest of the album is like this then you bout to get 6 mics" that doesn't mean they were actually about to give that rating. it's them saying "

" but that doesn't mean they were really going to do it. they might have written in the actual review something like "if only we could give it 6 mics instead of only 5" i remember they talked about Chronic 2001 and said "if any album ever deserved 4 3/4 mics then this is it" but thy weren't actually going to change their whole rating system and give Dre 4.75 mics"

They had 80% of it or 80% of it was done? Either way even if they had 80% of it and they did seriously tell him he was going to get 6 mics, why would that change so drastically JUST because it came out a year too late? Some pretend label politics? They weren't running around giving any label 4 or 5 mic reviews just because it was on Def Jam. Not east coast enough? I do believe they had a bit of an east coast bias but they weren't handing out 5 mics for EC albums like candy at Halloween. And Ras Kass is probably the most stereotypically east coast rapper the west has ever had so that shouldn't have held it back. I think it should have got more than 3 but not 5.
You might be right about the 80%. Is have to listen again. And I think there was a major change in the Source from early 95 to late 96. By late 96 they were more likely to shyt on underground albums that weren't gonna do numbers.

That nikka Ras wasn't even on beat. Especially at the end of the verse where the nikka tried to fit too many words in a bar. Nas owned that beat. Flowed like water.
