Rate this anime day 10: Naruto Shippuuden

5 for the filler fest that was the anime, I'll give that manga an 8 though. Read Naruto from middle school and finished it in college


The few episodes wit the crazy animation budgets (Kakashi vs Obito, Sasuke vs Killer Bee, Madara coming back and fukking up the shinobi army) were

Had some solid opening and ending songs too


GOATachi had the game sewn up and Sasuke got his ass beat every fight

Pierrot and Toei don't deserve these long running shonen anime , this could have been elite in the right hands

Btw fans of one piece have to be sick right now I’m not so sure the gap between Naruto and one piece should’ve been that large ( in statistical sense). I under DBZ but one piece is looking terrible

I can admit that the One Piece manga >>>>>>>> the anime though.

Anyhow, I'm giving Shippuden a 5. It's nowhere near as good as the first part, and it's not seeing the likes like Fullmetal Alchemist, Jojo, One Piece, or Hunter x Hunter IMO.
I've said my piece on Shippuden's negatives in previous threads:

IMO Naruto fell off when they made his whole character all about saving Sasuke and they turned Naruto into the chosen one. The OG series built Naruto up to be this down-on-his-luck character who came from nothing and beat the odds. He wasn't like all those other guys from their fancy-pants bloodlines, he was supposed to be the underdog. Making Naruto this hero of destiny who's descended from all of these legendary people totally destroys the whole moral lesson and the entire point of his character development in that first part. Shippuden's only saving graces for me are the fight scenes, Shikamaru, and Naruto wifing Hinata at the end.

As much as the series lost it's magic when the Uchiha clan took over the plot, Shippuden still did a lot right, so I'm giving it a 5.

Naruto curving Sakura is another W. Sakura is a trash character
You have black people in the series that get shine (Killerbee )
Shikamaru is dope and one of the few side characters who didn't get phased out.
Naruto ACTUALLY accomplished his goal of becoming Hokage in the end.

Shippuden has 204 filler episodes. At a certain point it becomes a chore to finish it and you're better off reading the manga. But I guess if you really love the franchise then it won't matter much.

The initial hook of Naruto is that you're following a talentless underdog with no friends, no family who has to prove to everyone that he has value in the world. But in Shippuden you learn that he's actually privileged as hell and more or less destined to become a top ninja if not Hokage someday. This undercuts the foundation that the original anime was built upon and is a flaw in the narrative.

The villians in Shippuden are 10x's more threatening and so many likeable characters get fukked up. This makes the battles feel like they have more weight to them, because you can't be sure who will survive in the end except for a handful. This was an upgrade from the first season.

Naruto does a better job of making every character feel like they matter. Shippuden puts fan favorites on the backburner to overcook the Sasuke/Naruto romance/rivalry that becomes hard to believe at a certain point. Naruto literally getting on his knees begging for this man to return to the leaf village, at one point even hyperventilating because this stresses him so much (???), never really felt as convincing as the show tries to make it look. Not as much as it would've if they were still children.

The music is the most memorable part of the Shippuden experience to me. Some of the songs drove the scenes as much as anything happening in them actually do, some of the OP's and ED's send me on instant nostalgia trips.





same score as Naruto, 6. Does some stuff better, other stuff worse, still a lot of filler, really hurt by HxH 2011 and FMAB showing what an ideal adaptation looks like. doesn't do anything that some shounen before it didn't do better like Yu Yu Hakusho which I bring up in every thread because it's great.

I guess "The Last" movie doesn't count in this, but the ending scene from that was so good. Brought everything around full circle with the entire village there to celebrate Naruto and Hinata's marriage.

Show started to fall off after Pain v Naruto but I’ll rate it an 8. I don’t care what the creator says Jiraiya should’ve been reanimated for the war arc.

Had a spark when it started but now it's just garbage.

After the end of the Pain invasion arc Naruto went to shyt. Nagato reviving everyone he killed in the end was stupid. Naruto not having an answer for Pain outside of "believe it" and Pain just going with that was stupid.Obito being alive is stupid. Black Zetzu planning all of the events of the manga was stupid. Kaguya appearing out of nowhere with no build up or connection to anything else in the Narutoverse was stupid. Neji dying the way he did was stupid. The 4th ninja war was stupid. I give it a 6/10 and that's generous

I'm still mad at what they did to my nikka Neji, all that character development for nothing . How you waste something like the Byakugan is beyond me. Don't even get me started on Rock Lee.
