Work with me brehs. I'm trying to keep our minds occupied while Nasir :cook: us up some more shyt. We'll be :eat: lovely come July 17th. For the time being, let's continue the trend of re-visiting old Nas.

You know the story.

After "It Was Written," Nas had plans to create a historic double-disc album, entitled "I Am...The Autobiography," that would be added to the pantheon of other great double-disc albums--"LAD" and "AEOM," for example. Even though it is unclear that the project was ever completed, rumor has it that it got so far that The Source staff heard some of it and prepared to give it 4.5 mics.

Unfortunately, but fortunately :scheme:, Napster hit. His shyt leaked and part of the album was bootlegged heavily. Instead of moving forward with his original vision, he scrapped the album and recorded two different albums: "I Am..." (released April 1999) and "Nastradamus" (released November 1999). Some of the shyt he recorded for the double album was put on these records, some on The Lost Tapes, and some of the shyt remains unreleased.

Instead of reminiscing on what could've been (:sadbron:), our goal is to recreate a single-disc classic that should've been: "I Am...Nastradamus." :jawalrus: You are the Executive Producer for this record. Pick 15 songs (about the average amount for each of his albums) from his 1998-1999 recording period to create this record.

The following is a summary of what I believe were all the songs from the "I Am..." and "Nastradamus" recording sessions--46 songs total (Let me know if I missed anything and I'll update this list):

"I Am..." Intro (Feat. Jungle)
Amongst Kings
Big Girl
Big Things
Blaze a 50
Come Get Me
Day Dreamin', Stay Schemin'
Dr. Knockboot
Drunk by Myself
Family
Favor for a Favor (Feat. Scarface)
Fetus (Belly Button Window)
Find Ya' Wealth
Ghetto Prisoners
God Love Us
The Hardest Thing to Do is Stay Alive
Hate Me Now (Feat. Puff)
I Want to Talk to You
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Last Words
Life Is What You Make It (Feat. DMX)
Life We Chose
My Worst Enemy
Money is My bytch
Nas is Like
Nastradamus
New World
New York State of Mind Part II
The Outcome
Poppa' Was a Playa'
Pray (Feat. The Bravehearts)
The Prediction (Intro)
Project Windows
Quiet nikkas
The Rise and Fall
Shoot 'Em Up
Small World
Some of Us Have Angels
Sometimes I Wonder (Feat. Nature)
Tales from the Hood
Undying Love
We Will Survive
You Gotta' Love It
You Owe Me
You Wanna' Play Rough
You Won't See Me Tonight (Feat. Aaliyah)

Pick your 15. And let everyone know which 5 records would be your top 5. Your 3 singles? The 3 that barely made the cut? The 3 that almost made the record but were left in the vault? How you think the record would've changed Nas's career? Anything else you want to say about your record and what it would've done for Nas's legacy?

literally no rapper should make an album longer than 55 minutes. ever. anytime. don't care who you'll bring up. you're still going to be wrong.

15 songs comes in under an hour, usually.

Not just rappers. Look at great albums in other genres. They're album lengths are usually fairly short.

yesiambowling proves there are exceptions to the rule, though.

My album, tracks in no particular order:
Nas is Like
You Gotta Love It
NYSOM II
Amongst Kings
The Rise and Fall

Undying Love
Blaze a 50
Drunk by Myself
Fetus (Belly Button Window)
Tales From the Hood
Hate Me Now (Feat. Puff)
Project Windows (Feat. Ronald Isley)
Come Get Me
Poppa Was a Playa
We Will Survive

My top 5 are bolded above.

My 3 singles: Nas is Like ("Ready when you are, Preem"), Hate Me Now (:takedat: still :stylin:, take that, take that), Blaze a 50 (cameo from Halle Berry :noah:)

3 that barely made it: Project Windows, Poppa Was a Playa, We Will Survive

First 3 out of the vault, maybe bonus tracks: Wanna Play Rough, Find Ya Wealth, Small World

If Nas makes this album, he starts his career with 3 undeniable classics. There's no talk at all about him falling off. Record definitely goes gold first week and eventually goes at least triple. Jay-Z's "one hot album every 10 year average" line isn't ever contemplated. In fact, if there's a Takeover at all, it's only directed at Mobb Deep (This also makes me wonder if Stillmatic gets made because like it or not Takeover lit a fire under his ass.). Above all, Nas is universally hailed as :king: of hip-hop.

Overall, "I Am..." and "Nastradamus" somewhat tarnished his legacy. Expectations were sky high before those records were released. Even though they turned out to be good records (at least "I Am..." is), they weren't the great record he could've made. Don't get me wrong, Nas has had a dope career, regardless. I just think he becomes more untouchable if he makes the above record.

Looking forward to "Life is Good." :ahh:

I forgot about the verse ending up on Killah Priest's shyt. nikkas used to fiend for that shyt being released.

I love that song w/ E-Money Bags. I thought the song was just unreleased. I didn't know it ended up on E-Money Bags' album.
