I do think the Attitude era gets put on a pedestal, but nostalgia will do that to just about anything

I prefer the late 80s/ early 90s WWF by a big margin myself. There was something magical about that time in wrestling that will never be re-created

That said, it's really just a matter of your personal opinion. And we always remember things as better than they were

On one hand, yes, it does. On the other hand, it SAVED the WWF.

So yes it's quality might be overrated, but it's importance can't be overstated.

It was definitely a hell of a lot less predictable than wrestling is today, and Raw felt more episodic. Aside from the Daniel Bryan saga, I can stop watching Raw for weeks and come back and still follow along. Attitude Era storylines were so intricate that missing an episode would cause you to lose track of how storylines were progressing. That's what made it so addicting.

It was a peak time for storyline writing, I'll give you that

Even the lower card had storylines back then. The lower card belts meant something too, no matter who had them. The belt could go from a guy like the Godfather to Chris Jericho and back and not lose a step. Undertaker was the Hardcore champ at one point. And the AE wasn't that good? Okay. :rudy:

Attitude Era was good. But people act like it's the best era, and I disagree with that. I really do feel people put it on a pedestal.

there isn't a year in wrestling history that had more quality PPVs than 2000. early attitude era was mostly shock and awe and with a very good main event storyline 1997- mid 1999. but about mid 1999-2001 everything was solid. 2000 was def the most quality from start to finish and way better than anything over the best decade. you had the entertainment value, plus the great wrestling matches

But the thread title is "the Attitude Era wasn't that good," like it was mediocre. Like it was stale. You should say overrated.

I was going to make the same point. From top too bottom everyone had a character and storylines that felt significant.

Ok yeah, I can see that then. The product might not have been "the best" but it was definitely exciting. You wanted to kill yourself if you missed RAW or SD!. Hell, even Sunday Night Heat was must see TV.

At least that era felt special because everybody played a role and it was an significant role. It didn't matter if you were in the Main Event or Tag Teams or Women's Division. Every division just felt so special and they actually had segments and stories that had to do with what went on in the ring. If you guys are looking for quality wrestling, then you need to stop watching the WWE right now.

I get quality wrestling right now with WWE.

True, but let's be honest the WWE was never really about the wrestling as much as it was about the ENTERTAINMENT.

It's not as entertaining now because yeah the matches are good, but the entertainment aspect is boring.

They have three hours of the show now versus back then they had 2 hours and they still don't know what to do with THREE hours.

I disagree. I think WWE has done it the best with mixing storytelling and doing this in a match. Hogan vs Andre, Hogan vs Macho where Macho plays the most realistic and believable heel EVER, Bret Hart vs Stone Cold, Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold vs The Rock, Mankind vs Undertaker. I remember these because they are well told stories that exemplify the best in wrestling, and their matches come to a boiling point of excellent in-ring psychology and narrative. Compared to many other feds and it's night and day for me. My favorite WWE moments are all match related. Hogan finally gaining triumph as he slams Andre, the double turn of Stone Cold and Bret, the passion and energy of Mankind vs Undertaker.

I think the only thing WWE is missing right now are great storylines. If they had that on top of their current talent it would easily be the greatest era for me.
