Yea the shyt they do in the ring now is more advanced and more high energy but that's like saying newer movies are better than older movies because they have more advanced special effects. What good are they if you don't care about the story or the characters?

Back then the WWF was billed as a wrestling promotion where the toughest combatants from all over the world came to perform and compete. There was a logic there. And not only did all the wrestlers share a common goal but they all had their own unique origins and motivations. Even the weekly matches served a purpose and when bigger matches were announced they actually took the time to tell a story and force you to anticipate it. You felt wins and you felt losses because the characters MADE you feel them. All in all it was just a glorious time to be a wrestling fan and I'm so grateful that I was able to experience it first hand.

That's all gone now. There's no logic and there's no foundation and there isn't anything even remotely resembling an overarching narrative. You watch Raw these days and it's a fukkin shyt show. Who cares if Dolph Ziggler has a match with Daniel Bryan. WHY is this happening!?! WHAT is at stake!?! WHAT does this match mean to EITHER guy?!? And most importantly... WHY should I care!?!

Really makes you wonder who's behind the wheel of this thing cause I can't understand what caused the bar to fall so low.

There are no more jobbers to build people and they are forced to wrestle every week back then it was twice a month and 3-4 ppvs a year so it was easier to slowly build hype for match ups to be fair... It really is tough to do a weekly show all year

Well they could definitely cut back on PPV's to 5-6 a year which I think would be perfect. If there was an average of 2.5 months in between each event I think that would be plenty of time to build anticipation. But this current creative team just don't got the skills.

The WWF had weekly shows back then too they just weren't live. But they still had a Sat morning show and a Sun morning show without over exposing the talent. Why? Cause they had a deep roster. If you didn't see Hogan on TV for 3 weeks it was okay cause in that time you probably saw Warrior, Savage, Perfect, etc. or some combination of these guys. These guys were all big enough to carry a show by themselves. It's like how the NFL don't have to put the Broncos on primetime every week because they have a lot of other teams that could draw. It was the same with the WWF. They didn't need to put Hogan on every week because you didn't just tune in for Hogan. But when you DID see Hogan, it was special.

What I'm sayin is that the weekly format can absolutely work but they have to tear down the current structure and rebuild from the ground up. Ditch the episodic soap opera shyt and go back to billing big matches and building stars.

2.5 months in between ppvs would be great but you know they aren't giving up the revenue I would sacrifice it to build a better product

I personally like just keeping the big 4 royal rumble mania summer slam and at this point replace survivor series with money in the bank because there aren't enough wrestlers to care about for that 4vs4 format

Well now that they have the network maybe there isn't as much pressure to make monthly PPV's. Who knows maybe a year from now when more and more people have the network (lol they hope) and they aren't really eating much off PPV money anymore they can bill less "special events" and really make them count.

Survivor Series don't mean shyt anymore because we see the same guys compete against one another week in and week out in all sorts of combinations so there isn't any appeal to the classic SS matchup anymore. But when you were a kid it was fukkin incredible to see because it was the one time a year you saw these titans all team up.
