Alotta nikkas not nice, they just saying basic shyt real fast

Anyway I think lyrics and beats go together, they both gotta "stick" to you
My favorite songs are when the beat and the hook sound like they were made for each other, and the verses are talking about sentiments you can feel even if you never went through the exact situation before

Wack choruses and weak flows take me out of the song

:mindblown:

what?! That's arguably the best beat Wayne has EVER rhymed on.

You really think people got into that track because of Wayne's acapellas?

Sometimes I wonder with y'all thoughts...

:camby:fukk outta here. That beat is undeniably wack.

Used to listen/dissect lyrics when I was in HS but I aged out of it I think :yeshrug: More responsibility/less time I just didn't care as much. Artist that I keep in a steady rotation (full albums/mixtapes) I still do listen to the lyrics, but the beats and flows gotta match up or else it's to the bushes. One off songs I really don't care as long as I'm entertained though (Rich the Kid, Migos, Rae Sremmurd, Young Thug, Quan, etc).

"Dope beats, dope rhymes, what more do y'all want?"

This is an interesting philosophical question. I think for radio/club play in 2015, the important factors are:

Beat > Intonation/Vocal Inflection > Flow > Rhymes > Lyrical content

where "Catchyness" is comprised of a combination of Intonation/Vocal Inflection, Flow, and Rhymes, that when taken together, becomes more valuable than the beat alone.

For my own taste, I think it goes:

Beat > Rhymes > Flow > Intonation/Vocal Inflection > Lyrical content

Years ago, I think I would have just said Beat > Rhymes > Lyrical content >>> ... But as these other factors have become more central to modern Hip-Hop music, I've grown to appreciate things like Flow a lot more.

Expansion the difference between rhymes and lyrical content. Rhymes = bars/metaphors?

This thread is why 95% of the music that comes out now is hot for two weeks and then forgotten..... Yeah, the beat is dope but nobody is saying any memorable or that resonates....

I get it for club songs and singles.. but you have to have something to say with your lyrics for your music to last.

Who wants to listen to complete album from a rapper who has shytty or basic lyrics? And I think that's obvious when you look at album sales these days
:ehh:cannot disagree with this post!!!

and that was not just the year but in the last few years rap has been going in the shythole and will continue to go in the shythole as long as these rappers keep doing that.

I always felt like beatmakers deserve more shine anyway though.

By "rhymes" I just mean the actual rhyming words/syllables in the lyrics. (eg. "...walking/... talking","...that should go/...-rational", etc.)

By "lyrical content" I mean bars/metaphors/subject matter/etc..
