Alright, forget about what he's doing now on some modern day Ice Cube stuff (their careers have mirrored each other at this point now in soooooo many ways). And forget about him doing that Just Wright movie with Queen Latifah.

Did this guy mess with his own legacy just for Hollywood money like Cube? He has classic albums, classic songs, and he was spitting some straight up real sh!t in his songs for real. Just like Cube.

How do you go from this?

Ice Cube diss response...to feelings caught from "I used to love H.E.R."

to this?

I actually like that last one...but I wouldn't lie and say that wasn't some soft adult contemporary R&B soft stuff compare to his previous work.

Do people know that this man was one of the best rappers out at a certain point in time anymore? It's almost like he went from being underrated to...I don't even know. And that's what gets to me.

Common is one of the rappers I'm conflicted about...he has those great abums in Be, One Day It WIll All Make Sense, and Resurrection, but he was never someone I could just go back to often...I'll play Infamous thirty times before I play COmmon's albums, which is not a diss, but he just never stuck with me...

As far as legacy, he deserves recognition for his 3 classic or near classic albums but he doesn't leave that :ohhh: factor on you

I don't blame Common or Cube for going Hollywood though. The money in rap is drying up day by day.
shyt i dont either.. but once you go hollywood or get comfortable money wise.. you lose the passion for the craft... Hov is one of the only people i know that still loves hiphop to the point where he can still drop quality music every year..

He definitely spearheaded the Midwest rap movement. That's enough to halfway ignore the shyt he's doing today. With no Common there's no Kanye or Chance The Rapper

Yep.

I don't know if people even care about Common's music like that really anymore. He's just another rapper turned actor now. I find it troubling considering he has quite the body of work behind him.

Same shyt they do with Cube. Someone told me not long ago that Ice Cube had no worthy contribution to rap music. I was like :usure::wtf::mindblown::rudy::camby:

Yea. He has atleast four classic albums. Resurrection, One Day it will all make sense, Like Water For Chocolate, Be (I would add "Can I Borrow A Dollar?" to that too as five). He was actually mentioned in credible discussions in hip-hop magazines/circles back in the day but it's almost like he played that sensitive neo-soul concious rapper vibe that he put out on "The Light" (that was a huge track looking back on it now) and played it out til the wheels fell off.

Personally, I think Like Water For Chocolate was Common's last REAL album period. After that came "Electric Circus" that album was just not that great at all. "Be" came out in 2004 and that completely made people forget about that album. It was all downhill from there...Universal Mind Control might of been the nail in the coffin for the rapper Common other than some guest appearances on GOOD music.

He was just never that artist that really got to me...I love Be, ODIWAMS, and Resurrection, but they aren't powerful to me, but that's just my opinion
