Yea I'm starting to see it as well, my company thought people would return to work after unemployment ended but people made more money doing shyt for free and don't want to go back to shytty wages and benefits. Weed is legal now so there's' that and also not to mention 8/10 people I work with don't want to get vaccinated and they see their friends working from home when they have to take the train and see a homeless man juggle his own shyt for $15/hr. A lot don't have childcare either

I think yall miss the point with automation. It's not AI Iron Man style robots or nothing. There's a lot of in between. Stories like this are becoming more and more common due to COVID risk factor:

In wake of COVID, employers step up automation and use of robots

Those toll collector jobs are not coming back in any shape or form.

Even more and more Costcos are putting in selfcheckouts. That's 5-10 less cashiers you need to hire and keep just maybe 1-3 to maintain the stations in case of any issues.

It used to be just a expense VS profit thing, but COVID added an extra incentive to it now.

Every industry will get hit different. But hospitality and food service industry will get hit big(is getting hit) . You may not move to a complete robot workforce but the amount of people you need to hire will be much less. This is going to be a big problem

Just look at the car manufacturing industry and what happend to those people

And once those jobs get replaced, others will take it's place. Automation isn't new and I don't know why people pretend that it is. Jobs before went away and others took their place.

Wouldn't necessarily call it a "huge" win for restaurants. Those delivery services take a huge chunk out of their bottom line. Like up to 30% for every order made thru ubereats

Which is why you're seeing Chick Fil A now creating their delivery service to cut out the middleman.

This is not the same. Explain how 500 other jobs were created for those 500 people that got laid off at the toll collection?

If 10 new jobs are created after you just eliminated 100 then there's going to be a big problem in the future.

TYRONE GA!
These recruiters are desperate too.

Had a recent interview and this VP was stressed cause half of the company quit. (The turnover with a lot of these companies are crazy)

:mjlol:

I tell em I need 100k - 120K for what he’s asking & he’s juelzing.
Employees market right now

Look at the Costco example. Yes self checkout is becoming the norm, but the demand for online grocery pick up has increased as well. You need workers to fill those orders so it's creating jobs in it's place.

The majority of businesses and food industries out here just don't have the foot traffic like that to justify the cost of going the automation route. Look at an example of somewhere like Subway where you only need 2-3 to run an entire store and even then they just don't get the foot traffic like that to replace those workers via automation.

I had to turn down a recruiter yesterday because the money wasn't right and she kept texting me after trying to get me to change my mind about it :russ:
