This is vague and fluid concept that leaves a loop hole for infidelity. Shows a weak connection between 2 people.

I mentioned in another post that I have hobbies and interests, and she's active in organizations. We have friends. At the same time neither one of us has felt we needed a break from the other. That "desire" shows lack of strong connection.

And there are threads about sexless marriages, infidelity and other issues along those lines on here every other day fam, it's a common issue for any long term monogamous relationship. A big part of maintining that polarity, in say a 20+ year marriage is making sure there is a sense of individuality. The longer you live with someone in close proximity the more comfortable and 'connected' you get, the less of an individual you become unless you periodiodically take some time to establish and remember who you are beneath the roles you play in each others lives.

That doesn't necessarily require a solo vacation, but I don't see why it couldn't be included in a relationship where there is the level of trust needed to do something like...get married. If your partners needs aren't being met (and I don't just mean a warm body), they don't even have to leave the crib to find other means.
