I already know somebody’s gonna come in and say there’s plenty of good music out you just gotta dig
:heh:

I agree with that. But the problem is we shouldn’t have to dig for shyt. We, our parents our grandparents etc. never had to dig for talent becuz it was spoonfed to us
Too much junk around. Making music is now too accessible

Man, woman, and child
And to your point, he can actually sing but his biggest hits he altered his voice. He showed labels that having actual singing talent isn’t necessary for success
I think it worked for him BECUZ he could sing. Now imagine that he never existed and the first time we heard somebody using auto tune like that was Wayne on Lollipop

The downfall of R&B started with New Jack Swing. That was autotune before autotune.

Most of those New Jack Swing nikkas weren’t great singers, they just flowed to the beat and made a radio/club friendly hit. Or they downplayed their vocal skills to harmonize.

full
Johnny Kemp had some decent material

Now it is true some lesser known in the NJS era had weak projects, but it's been weak singers throughout music.

Yes it definetly created a lane for the mediocre singers to rack up hits (Pebbles/Bobby Brown etc )but NJS also had it's fair share of great singers who either couldnt get it poppin too.
