Above the fray.
.........dc should've reeled this shyt in a long time ago

now who fixes what and how is about to be out of bowser's hands :francis:
They tried. The mayor, council members, even the u.s. attorney tried

Eventually, they had to react to public safety realities and acted accordingly. Crime is trending down because of those measures, but MFers are who they are, so there are still criminals out there victimizing people.

Whatever Trump decides to do, the leaders of that city did make an effort to get a handle on the crime.

Looks like we're doing the '90s again. I hope people realize that nothing's really going to get fixed with a federal takeover -- at least not in any meaningful or lasting way. And to be clear, I'm not excusing anything -- that kind of violence is real, it does harm people (often Black people), and communities deserve better than to live under that threat. But leaning on the same failed policies doesn't solve the problem. It just slaps a band-aid on them.

We're never going to solve this until everyone shows the will to fight for and institute real solutions that help prevent violence/violent crime. In the meantime, yes, violent criminals should be held accountable, but we shouldn't be looking to past failures as a way forward, nor should we shrug our shoulders in the face of this kind of federal overreach, especially since it is really fueled by racism.

If the objective of those 90's policies were to lower crime then, guess what? They worked

The problem was there were unintended (or maybe intended) consequences. Non-violent criminals got swept up without discretion. Drug offenses got the hammer brought down on them. Let's fix that part.

But we've gotta stop pretending purely preventive measures are guaranteed to work and make us more moral. People who don't have to deal with every day violence in their community go online and speculate that if only we put some after school programs in the neighborhood then eventually (in a decade?) the cycle of violence will be broken.

Ok. Maybe? But what about right now?

The reality is most violent crime is committed by the same handful of repeat offenders we were too lenient on the first time.

Punishment works. Preventative might work later. Do both.

This. Like passing them little weak ass juvenile curfew laws was suppose to stop something? Little terrorist don't care about carjacking or assaulting people but they're suppose to be scared of a curfew infraction :heh:

Now you've left prime "culture war" ammunition for your enemy laying right on the table for him to come into your house, load up his gun, and pop you with it.

Dems(yes DC politics is run Democrats) just move way to sloppy for me in 2025:scust:

Dastardly was running around DC KILLING BLACK MEN. PRODUCTIVE BLACK MAN who worked hard his whole life to make it to a league that only the 1% of the 1% reach, almost erased by a fakkit ass lil terrorist .

DC prosecutors sentenced the terrorist to 6, yes folks SIX YEARS FOR A HOMICIDE OF ONE BLACK MALE and the attempted carjacking and attempted murder of a other Black male.

Like I said, a fukking terrorist.

The good politicians of DC left themselves wide open for this one
