What should happen is dependent on whose interests you're trying to protect, the organization's or the individual players. I'm in agreement with the poster that conclude that CP3 isn't a transcendent player, a la Kobe, Jordan, or even LeBron that can carry his team when it matter the most. CP3's career has shown this to be true, although he has had a solid career up to this point. The Clippers GM need to put out feelers to gauge CP3 market interest/value and what they can get in return.... not necessarily trade him(unless they get an offer that improves the team drastically). Of course, this may ruffle feathers and bruise egos, but it has to be done. What is there to lose? If the team stays together and they lose next season, Doc will be fired and the team will be blown up anyways. In the best interest of the organization in regards to DeAndre Jordan, they need to talk him down from a max deal(most likely not happening). Signing DJ to a long-term max deal would be great now, but terrible in the long term. DJ could get better, but the reality that he is pretty much at his peak and will not improve much, if at all. Three points that makes this a risky proposition... 1)DJ is still a terrible FT shooter(which has been already highlight)..You give him the dough and there will be less incentive for him to improve his game.... it's generally the same story: player gets paid, then gets lazy. 2)He has been relatively injury-free, but that can change and normally does as players age. 3) His offensive is predicated on an efficient PG that can get him the ball in high-percentage situations. No CP3 = DJ's seemingly growing offensive numbers take a hit.
In the best interest of DeAndre Jordan, he should probably get paid playing elsewhere... OR.... take a cut to play for another contender(OKC... Ibaka and DJ
If I were in this situation, I'd take a cut to win a title. The Clippers are bit flawed and CP3 will not lead them to a title. It isn't in his DNA.
And if the reports of this thread are accurate, then it's the beginning of the end anyways.
