:russ: nikkas gon be trading PTO hours like food stamps now?

You gonna call up chase and pay that credit card balance with pto? Pto turning the lights back on too huh?

By the way, how does this work for wage workers? I thought the idea behind pto was that we don't have to do anything extra to earn it. If you work wages for 5 extra hours and the company gives you 5 hours of time off, they're just balancing their expense report.
:pachaha:"yo, let me hold 5 hours. I'll get you back next week, Breh! Trust me. I'm good for it."

Huff Post did a pretty good write up on how this will likely play out.

One of the most damning parts is that companies don't have to pay out accrued time if they go out of business. So there you have a scenario where a failing business can over work it's staff under the guise they are accruing future PTO or money and then the business goes out of business and they are never paid for their work. :banderas:

Under the proposed changes, eligible employees -- if their employer decides to offer the option -- would be able to voluntarily choose to receive comp time they can bank and use at a future date in lieu of immediate overtime pay in their paychecks. If they change their minds and want the pay after all, employees would have the option of "cashing out," with the employer required to pay the overtime within 30 days.

You have to use it in 30 days. However, as a nurse, I have to put my requests for PTO 1 month in advance.
Same here with holiday comps, but I'm also on salary.

What I don't see here is any way this legislation benefits traditional hourly workers. All the gains seem to swing towards the employer having even more control.

I read through the actual bill. Time can be carried for what looks like a year before it has to be paid out. Unless you hit 80 which gives the employer the ability to cap, force, payout. It's an odd provision.

yea...

People are only going to be cool getting fukked for so much longer.

Perhaps, my point with that comment though was that a working class that is not conscious and organized will always be getting squeezed and will never make advances. This bill is part of that squeeze. Capitalists are always making plans for workers, and those plans are not ones that workers will find are in their interests.

That's exactly what I was thinking after I closed this thread. When I quit/get fired, you have to pay me cash money for my accrued PTO hours. Wage earners who are seasonal would be getting the same treatment? I doubt it.

damn, republicans can spin anything. wow, this is to help families. most people who work overtime do so FOR the extra money. doesn't affect me and the people voted for this bullshyt up and down the country. :yeshrug:
actually that is NOT true at all.
Many people choose the time rather than pay
They don't get taxed more on the time off, and they get the time equivalent to OT (1.5X)

I don't see how this is a big deal. Anyone that works in a place that currently does this has no problems with that type of flexibility.
