eh RE started out as haunted house horror with RE1, but the series got progressively more action packed with each entry. Bazookas, machine guns, soldiers, explosions, even RE8 village is pretty much an action game with fleeting moments of genuine horror.

I'm willing to give it a chance. They've tried to be more faithful already and failed. Even the Capcom animated films that are directly tied to the games, suck. So we'll see.
