Yea I tip them like a $1 on my to go orders as an appreciation, but I’m not giving them a 18%-20% tip as if I was being served and waited on. fukk that.
This.

The only people I tip like I'm being served for take out is the barista at a coffee joint because if I get an espresso drink I see them actually put in work to make it. But given a drink with a pastry or something may cost about 8 bucks that is usually only about a 3 dollar tip max.

The excuse I've always heard in restaurants trying to justify tips for to go orders is all the "steps" involved in getting that order ready for takeout such as cooking the food and what not. The only problem with that notion is that it's illegal for restaurants to make waiter split tips with the cooks or any of the backstaff.

I have also heard that some restaurants don't actually give the computer added tips to the workers and actually keep it for themselves. It's why in some cases there's also a tip jar on the counter as well.
