The alt-right is too powerful bro. I think ya'll aint really peeping whats going on right now.

White nationalists are out and openly spreading this shyt. Bernie is considered "soft" in these circles.

I don't disagree about the alt-right being powerful, but that's why we need somebody that can get more of the Dem base out to vote. Moving right in order to try to appease these guys is the opposite of a successful strategy.

the loud progressives have offended and defected more moderate dems/independents. they feel dismissed, talked down to, caricatured, don't align with all these LGBT initiatives etc. i'm no political expert at all, but how do you keep that centrist base when the "urban, black/brown, educated, elitist liberal" bark to move left?

Offended the "moderate" base how? Anything anybody does to help anyone that's nonwhite/gay/etc is somehow offensive? Obama spent half of his presidency going out of his way to appease them to the point of not even addressing black issues until he was forced. And again, the Dem party has NOT moved to the left so if "moderates" are offended about something that's not it. Economically they're as far right as they've ever been.

On an intellectual level, thanks for the article, it seems I can never get enough of white trash and their existence on a sociological level, and prior to Tuesday, was often intrigued and empathetic at their pathetic lives...I read an NY Times, (liberal elite!) article about the Appalachian Mountain communities post recession, it was brutal. A life without much hope. This gave them that....I may have reached my limit after this election....

Alt-right is only gaining wind because working class whites have been left out of Obama's recovery. With Hillary claiming she would continue Obama's presidency you'd have to be an idiot to not understand why people who suffered through it wouldn't want a repeat.

i agree the party hasn't moved left, but many of the policies that are the desires of the more progressive wing feel like a huge shift. while the economics are beneficial to them, the social values don't jive. of course i want these folks to understand inclusion doesn't mean their exclusion, but that won't happen. i don't know...i personally wonder if a true move to the left will work - i don't even know how i personally feel about that as i don't agree with all progressive policies. even if it does for the presidency, i don't think it will at the state level and the repubs will continue to hold more congress seats and state govenments

In one of the leaks Hillary and her team were told about Kansas and their economic problems and wheter or not they should have gone down there to campaign but they decided it was "too white"

They bought into the hype that you no longer need the white vote in this country and that minorities and mostly latinos could guide you to victory

They found out they were completely off. Trump showed whites still have the voting power it just took a crazy dude to bring that out with white pride the selling point

Bruh, why do you keep pushing this nonsense narrative about whites being ignored? The way you're talking it's like you think minorities are doing so much better or something.

Not only did Obama step on eggshells to avoid doing anything that might upset white voters, but statistically white people are still much better off than about every other economic group and haven't been "left out" of Obama's recovery more than anybody else. Have you even seen white wealth compared to black/hispanic wealth levels? This narrative that white people have some particular reason to be mad that everybody else doesn't is BS. Now don't get me wrong, there's certainly that perception but factually speaking I don't see it at all.

The rural voters that voted for Trump are the one group that has actually seen their wealth decline in the recovery. It's not in their head. White people weren't ignored, just poor white people.

I'm tired of pretending like I care about these people or their problems. In the grand scheme of things I don't care at all. Our tax dollars subsidize their existence and they have the nerve to get mad at us :smh:. What's wrong with getting a education that will improve their lives? What's wrong with getting some technical skills that will help remove their dependence on manufacturing?

I really hope Trump fukks them over. I swear dealing with Trump supporters is like dealing with bad/ungrateful children. You give them resources so they can improve their lives, but they still fukk it up.
