Man you sound like a coastal repub right now. We had a problem when they said this about black people...remember?

Breh spare me that garbage, these "white middle class voters" need to do better. At least our black people make attempts to improve our situations, these low educated Neanderthals are content with mediocrity. I'm sorry if this comes off as offensive, but I really don't give a Damn about these people at all.

Secondly, I only date black women, so I don't know where you were going with the interracial angle.

I'm curious for those who say it was Racism/White Supremacy that lead to the Rust Belt swing, and not the liberal condescending attitude, indifference, and Trump's unprecedented protectionism rhetoric, how do you plan on getting these voters back? Or do you feel you can move on without them? Because I'm reading a lot of "fukk them and not being able to keep up with the times" or thinking along the lines of this sentence in the link nap just posted "This country is getting browner and gayer by the day, and for all they are fighting to get back to the 1950s, lazing in toxic nostalgia isn’t going to change that. The demographics of this country are not on their side. They might want to try understanding the future—in which they are outnumbered and outvoted—because it comes for us all."

Honestly I don't think there is a solution.

The fact is, a most of these voters are convinced hat their interests are antithetical to the interests of minorities/immigrants/etc and are going to tend to vote for the party they perceive as less friendly to them. Any sort of government action is going to tend to be seen as an undeserved handout to minorities. Fact is the environment was different in 2008 then it is now. Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not too optimistic.

A lot of black people don't do anything to improve their lives. Same with white people. Lazy is not confined to a race.

"go to college" college is expensive, and not the solution for everyone.

Well not you per se, but a lot of people who say this don't have sympathy for their own community either. The working class being racial is only part of the story and until dems realize that celebpolitics and sjwism is not a winning formula.

With union membership never coming back, I think it's time for us to move on and change the electoral map. The demographic shift was prevalent on election day. Look at the state of NC, VA, and GA. VA was won because of the high educated voting block in the northern part of the state. Look at the election in Georgia. Mitt Romney won by double digits against Obama in 2012, but Hillary ( a worse candidate) lost the state by 5 percentage points. There seem to be a shift happening in that state. Finally look at North Carolina, it would be interesting to see how that state plays out without voter suppression.

Agreed. Absolute nonsense. Not like these people have answers for the black working class as well.

You're wrong because if Bernie would have won we would not be having this convo...

A lot of people on here are coastal types (including me as of 15 months ago), and don't realize that a clear majority of Americans are white (about 73%) and a clear plurality of Americans make under $25,000 a year (about 43%). The existence of those numbers necessitate, repeat, NECESSITATE an appeal to the white working class voter, and the working class voter in general.

The Dayton metro area is just north of my hometown (I'm from Cincinnati) and I have a lot of friends that still live there. I was back there in August and spoke with a lot of people who, while not being politically savvy in any way, have an innate sense of the class dynamics of the population and how neoliberal economic and trade policies have destroyed that segment of the population's livelihoods. Trump spoke to those people and, more importantly, Hillary and the Democratic Party in general made no effort to speak their language. Thus, you get the 16 point swing in voters making under $30,000 (probably around half the population of the country) that we saw on Tuesday.

But we're still talking about identity politics and shunning white working class voters as racists or sexists. Why would the white working class vote for you if you're continually calling them racists when most of them aren't even remotely motivated by racism? Furthermore, why would the single biggest segment of the population (the working class. White, Black, Latino and every race and ethnicity inbetween) vote for Democrats when Democrats have spent two decades destroying everything they've depended on to live? They're supposed to be salved by Democrats and celebrities showing that we have rich women and Black people now? fukk off.

Adolph Reed was right when he called identity politics "the class politics of left-wing neoliberalism." Democrats can either give the working classes of America a real reason to vote for them or be doomed to a generation of irrelevance.

They don't understand that the demographic numbers aren't there yet to shun these people completely.

Everyone is focusing on the Presidential results but wait until they start looking at the Legislative results, governorships, and state results. The country is, for all intents and purposes, completely in control of the right from top to bottom.

It's not just about showing up every 4 years to get the President elected.

The alt-right is too powerful bro. I think ya'll aint really peeping whats going on right now.

White nationalists are out and openly spreading this shyt. Bernie is considered "soft" in these circles.

A couple of points:

1. This election cant be blamed on cism that is just intellectually lazy. Look at the numbers. Barack Hussein Obama got 69 million votes in 2008 and about 66 million votes in 2012. By comparison Hillary got about 59 million votes. That means 10 million democrats didnt show up. She also lost in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These states havent voted red since 1984. You are going to tell me that 3 states that voted for a black guy with the middle name Hussein twice are suddenly racist?

2. The alt right is a force brehs. It is a mistake to ride them off as racists in moms basement. The alt right has some asians, hispanics and even a few blacks. It is essentially an online movement gaining steam that game from gaming and is more nationalistic and sexist than racist. They essentially believe that globalism is illuminati type shyt and open borders are bullshyt... which is where the racist tag comes from. They also believe that democrats and liberal are essentially womens thinking.. if that makes sense. These dudes have tapped into the lonely man that cant get a date type cats out there, which there are a lot of. Thinh is that they are really good at bangin on the internet and their clever memes are starting to turn out some millenials.

You're severely downplaying the "white resentment" aspect here as if it's not a factor. You literally have white nationalists endorsing Trump and the KKK having a celebratory march, not to mention all of Trump's rhetoric about minorities and banning Muslims and building a wall, plus all of his birther horseshyt, the anti-BLM/pro-police stuff, and most of these working class white people apparently support this or are indifferent to it at most. You're kidding yourself if you think Trump's message was purely economic. There's some DEFINITE :mjpls: here.

I'm starting to get concerned that all of this "identity politics" whining is just going to lead to open 'cism being acceptable.

Problem is, it appears that the only way for the Dems to get this group back is to shyt on minorities or at the very least avoid addressing their issues. So it's a lose-lose.
