No we don’t!

Don’t get me wrong. I think I’ve read through most of the dark horse catalog, and I’ve read ALL of the marvel works. I loved a lot of it, but I always roll my eyes when they try to delve into the space jockey/engineer shyt. Some shyt doesn’t need to be uncovered because it will just cheapen things.

Like the predator stories, a lot relies of the mystery of the alien antagonist. That antagonist loses a lot of its menace when you know everything about it. I brushed off all the AvP flicks and comics when Prey came along and restored the feeling.

Alien gave us a horror story about a seemingly unstoppable, mystery killing machine that seemed to be able to adapt to anything. Not knowing what could be out there, where it comes from, how it does what it does, it being a part of nature, all adds to the horror.

Then Aliens comes along, and as much as I love it, kind of waters the killing machine down. Now it’s mostly unstoppable in high numbers. Humans can also kind of control where these things can be encountered. They’re disposable drones now. It’s all about action instead of horror.

Then Prometheus and covenant did their thing. Once you keep opening those doors, it’s hard to find ways to keep it reasonably scary. it’s even harder to close those doors and retcon shyt.

Plus it’s sometimes disappointing when a new writer comes in trying to put extra sauce on that shyt for no reason.

My favorite will always be the OG Alien 3 script being turned into a graphic novel. I also really liked the father daughter Marvel story on the satellite station. That would make a good movie.
Plenty of us on r/LV426 that do. The best thing about novelizations is getting more in-depth with the characters in a way you don't generally get in the movies as well as they are usually based off the original script so you'll get cut scenes

The overall expedition, the finding an engineer, meeting Wayland, the black nut catalyst, etc. It all got crammed together, ripped apart, then crammed again.

Whenever they started really exploring an idea, the movie just whipped into another direction.

Just a lot of spectacle that, split up, could have been a really substantial story or two that would have amazed even the most hardcore Alien Stan.

Ridley was doing too much.

The script underwent some changes which likely played a part but to me Scott still landed the plane on a solid prequel story and the directing was superb. There's not many Sci-Fi movies released that look anywhere this good or have this much thought put into the worldbuilding anymore.

I don’t mind novelizations for others. I personally tend to avoid though.

I prefer to read novels that have movies based on them. Buying the jr novelization of Jurassic Park, at the book fair ruined them for me.

Momma came through in the clutch by giving me all her Michael Crichton novels to fix it.

I also stay far the hell away from r/LV426 unless I want to know release dates. They be doing way too gotdamn much and end up killing the wonder for themselves lol. They’ll over analyze a classic moment with a question, then you can slowly track their heart breaking as the comments and their responses come.

I agree it was a beautiful movie. I watched that bullshyt twice in theaters.

The world building was a big part of what tripped things up. Prometheus couldn’t really focus on anything before zipping off into another direction. It was like a Jurassic park sequel, but it couldn’t help but try to show off every dinosaur in every containment area. Then it said “hey forget about all that, let’s just go visit a planet full of dinosaurs! Would you like that?!”.

A lot of OG fans felt like he was giving us a return to the horror of Alien, or even the intensity of Aliens, and then he released a messy but flashy, sci-fi thriller, with a bunch alien paraphernalia planted all over the place.

Neil said he was coming through to crush the buildings, then Ridley said “no wait until I put out this other movie, that I PROMISE will be a return to the horror of Alien”. Then we got covenant… zima infused android rendition of the “Heart of Darkness” story with even more alien paraphernalia scattered around.

I even respect him for trying to do better with Gladiator, even though it gets its complaints. I also loved Blade Runner 2049, so I respect Ridley for that (even though he was co-producer).

To each their own. I love novelizations definitely for science fiction movies

I hate that there wasn't an Alan Dean Foster or Tim Lebbon novelization of Prometheus.

:mindblown: how can Covenant get one but not Prometheus?

There’s probably a poorly translated English version floating around out there. If you can talk the author or publisher into visiting the subreddit you may be able to convince them that there’s a demand.

Who knows how poorly or well translated this is lol
