I never understood the hate for the movie. :manny: It was a great sci-fi experience in the theater

It was a bunch of “could be cool” ideas smushed together, then stirred up halfway through, and smushed again.

It was a vehicle for Ridley, to do to the Alien franchise, what George Lucas’ midi-chlorians did to Star Wars.

Very nice looking waste of what could have been a much better entry to Aliens, instead of the failed entry to an “Alien-verse” that ended up not happening. Ridley killed Neil Blomkamp’s Alien (the one that would have retconned 3 and resurrection) for this bullshyt and Covenant.

Yea man …. I really wish they would explore the engineer shyt some more smh

Don't get me wrong. The crew doing stupid things in Alien movies is par for the course.
Just rewatched Aliens: Covenant and that has to be the dumbest crew in all of Aliens.

Ridley already fukked up and blew that shyt. Fans of Alien and Aliens want more Xeno’s and claustrophobia.

I’m not trying to see anymore roid rage space Yakub adventures. Y’all can go re-watch Prometheus and Covenant for all that shyt.

You can have both. Someone like Jonathan Hickman just wrote an incredible comic with Aliens vs Avengers, that built heavily upon the engineer stuff from Prometheus.

Edit: I guess my point is how many more stories can you tell with a group being hunted down by Xeno(s)? They have to expand on the mythos in order to continue to tell stories.

Double Edit: Just finished the first episode of Aliens: Earth....maybe it's best to keep Aliens simple.

Like what?

The overall expedition, the finding an engineer, meeting Wayland, the black nut catalyst, etc. It all got crammed together, ripped apart, then crammed again.

Whenever they started really exploring an idea, the movie just whipped into another direction.

Just a lot of spectacle that, split up, could have been a really substantial story or two that would have amazed even the most hardcore Alien Stan.

Ridley was doing too much.

I'm guessing that was Lindelof's influence.

You seen that dirty, TRT cave beast, shirtless, rocking shytty space skims…then he drank unknown black weapon DNA, and dissolve…and you LOVED that shyt!

You ran to the coli to bump this thread on a Sunday morning to tell nikkas you hold that shyt NEAR and DEAR!

Still one of my favorites in the Alien franchise :yeshrug:
It's unfortunate there wasn't an American release novelization, same with Romulus

Alien fans want to, though. I and many others have the novelizations of all the Alien entries, even the novelizations of the early Dark Horse comics

:francis:
No we don’t!

Don’t get me wrong. I think I’ve read through most of the dark horse catalog, and I’ve read ALL of the marvel works. I loved a lot of it, but I always roll my eyes when they try to delve into the space jockey/engineer shyt. Some shyt doesn’t need to be uncovered because it will just cheapen things.

Like the predator stories, a lot relies of the mystery of the alien antagonist. That antagonist loses a lot of its menace when you know everything about it. I brushed off all the AvP flicks and comics when Prey came along and restored the feeling.

Alien gave us a horror story about a seemingly unstoppable, mystery killing machine that seemed to be able to adapt to anything. Not knowing what could be out there, where it comes from, how it does what it does, it being a part of nature, all adds to the horror.

Then Aliens comes along, and as much as I love it, kind of waters the killing machine down. Now it’s mostly unstoppable in high numbers. Humans can also kind of control where these things can be encountered. They’re disposable drones now. It’s all about action instead of horror.

Then Prometheus and covenant did their thing. Once you keep opening those doors, it’s hard to find ways to keep it reasonably scary. it’s even harder to close those doors and retcon shyt.

Plus it’s sometimes disappointing when a new writer comes in trying to put extra sauce on that shyt for no reason.

My favorite will always be the OG Alien 3 script being turned into a graphic novel. I also really liked the father daughter Marvel story on the satellite station. That would make a good movie.
