Kane was a recovering drug addict though. It's in the crew dossier for the "Alien Anthology" Blu-Ray.
Maybe the entire cast of "Prometheus" was drug addicts, too.

well we know most employees at weylan were not well versed and mostly obtruse.
or aloof about any and everything.
in alien the original the cast in the ship were all seen as misfot lower grade employees.
in Prometheus, they were on a ship where no one even knew the owner of the whole corp was there.
weylan has been portrayed as a corporation.
behind the creation and profitability of the xeno.
so it would make sense.
that the Prometheus was filled with aloof talent. Not focused on a cotfman thing. Plus filled with liabilities that can be deflected upon. Once we see what and why Prometheus was in orbit to begin with.
