What could Rick Owens say to make you feel more at ease with his "relationship" with the hip-hop community? Hip-hop music isn't what he listens to (look at him. Not entirely a shock to the system). He's not giving rappers free shyt (which is up to him. He could turn around tomorrow and make A$AP Rocky one of the faces of his line officially). He's damn sure not gonna make it any more accessible or affordable just because rappers like it. He was being diplomatic about it all and somehow some of y'all took it as a put down.

If Rick did what y'all wanted him to do, y'all would question his honesty and his true intentions. shyt, Miley Cyrus is out here risking her career tryna be down and most of y'all think she's a culture vulture.

I dont care about his relationship with the community. I already know he wouldnt off face value understand it just like I probably wouldnt (at face value) under stand his. With that said, some of the things he said just seems to be him trying to distance himself from it. Thats fine. As I said (I think), its his product. Im just calling it like I see it. Him throwing in that he doesnt pay these guys/give them free stuff and that they have to pay for it (duh if you dont give it to them for free), seems to be him distancing himself from the (black/lower class) people that choose to rock that garbage.

Not sure whether Rick Owens is a racist or not but here is a video from his recent show.

I remember seeing the pics for this on tumblr. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many people were pissed off at this cause he didn't feature anemic androgynous white people in yet another fashion show and went so far to even claim Rick Owens' legacy was dead (gasp)...while most people cheered this on and claimed this to be a big f*ck you to the industry en masse (including me).

Let the man cook.

I think that was the point though. It was out of the norm...and really I can't remember a runway show like it and I doubt there will be another one again.

A$AP Rocky, Jay-Z, and Rick Ross are not lower class. Never once did he mention the community or fans that buy his clothes. He's surprised with rappers' fascination with his clothes considering rappers tend to aim higher than the shyt he makes.

Considering how everyone thinks every rapper's some sort of industry plant in some way or another on this board, Rick's just clarifying that he's not the cause of it (because if Rick said he gave rappers free clothes as an exchange for the promo, everyone would just assume A$AP gets paid under the table or it's a professional relationship rather than mere admiration and approval from A$AP)

Yeah, I highly doubt Rick Owens isn't giving them free clothes or at least giving them something in return for the name dropping..

And pretty sure Rocky has modeled this dudes clothes.. lol

Imo.. I don't even think a lot of these rappers are even seekin any sort of return..if they did, why would they continue name droppin them? just name droppin shyt and all that so when everyone starts rockin it they can claim or others will claim they started the trend or brought it back..
whoreable post all the way through :camby:

I guess... :yeshrug:

I dont see the "surprise" by it. Im sure this dude has his clout in the fashion industry. And the more rappers try to be fashionistas, the more and different high class clothing they will find and wear. Especially from someone with clout in that industry like I assume (for whatever reason based off the clothes I've seen) this guy has. And for you to on one hand say that ASAP and company are not lower class, but yet say this guy should be surprised that someone in the upper class is wearing his clothes, illustrates my point.

In all actuality, I think its a better look that ASAP and other rappers that rep this dudes stuff are doing it from a pure admiration aspect rather than them being paid. I dont know, it seems to be a more positive aspect from the outside looking in so if thats where he was coming from then so be it. I dont see how one could take that from that quote.

His company has revenues of 137M this year, how much of that are we attributing to being name dropped by Jay or Ye?
thank you. raps fan kill me when they talk about rappers bigging up certain brands as if it contributes to their bottom line THAT Much. The "hip hop" fans probably don't even contribute 0.1 % to a designers revenues.

:comeon:

i buy shoes from places that sell rick owens gear. i've seen the 3,000 sweatshirts up close. i've tried one on. those shyts are BASIC, and you can find sweatshirts just as nice at jcrew for $70. and jcrew isn't some cheap old navy type store, either. jcrew is considered premium luxury gear. so, come on. this cat rick owens is fleecing dudes who think they need to spend gs to look good. :russ:

Is it one oochie J crew or is it one old navy? Big difference between old navy and J crew dun.

High fashion is intentionally expensive dun. You're paying for an aesthetic that is exclusive to that designer. You're paying for the narrative. Let's not pretend all of Mr. Owens' jawns are run of the mill J crew looking.
