That price was simply to buyout his last option (album) owed in the contract to DEF JAM

the Catalog was subjected to a Time Clause agreement in which the Catalog Rights would revert back to him at a later date which was 2015 if I recall....

either way it was a helluva deal...

because Jay being the wise businessman ...didn't even use his own capital....

he just took some of that 150 mill that LIVE NATION fronted him for his ROC NATION imprint and paid Doug that 5 mill tab.

That's an imprint. MMG is distributed by Atlantic. Ross is distributed by Def Jam, now Epic. Its actually a cool move because Epic is becoming a powerhouse. Future already there, and Diddy just signed a few months ago. Ross already hinted at him signing last summer.
