Never really heard any of Jesse's music, gonna check out "shockedelica" today doe

His last album "Verbal" was pretty funky except the lecture on pluto. I kept thinking "Double Cd? and you chose this to make the cut instead of music? Should've gone on youtube"

His bare my naked soul had a cool hard rock Hendrixian/King's X vibe to it. But his other lp's? it was so enveloped in the MPLS sound, it would never ever be able to have a space in the marketplace.
But one of the most underrated talented musicians, quite the talent. One thing I will say, he was able to pull Sly Stone for a collab on a single "Crazay", think how many couldn't get that look? Jesse is the real deal.

But here's the thing you notice about Jesse & probably something he thinks about. Jesse is rock guitar oriented lead & when he came around he had to use those
MPLS Synths & Linn's because that's what his audience was craving for, his guitars were WAAAAAAY back in the mix. And the mpls linn/synth sound lasted until 85 or so. People just assumed he was like that "Shake ya ass on the dancefloor to the synthy beat" Jesse didn't have any wheel horse to jump to. His label sees him with the african garb saying "Wtf is this shyt" They weren't going to put Jesse on the cover of guitar player but he could sonned most of them. Even D'Angelo knew "you stand wayyyy to the side of me" when Jesse was recruited for the tour band. Matter of fact, he came from that school of "I will crush you" He got in The Time, right? Prince knew at that audition.

Jesse was given a Prince track but he declined it. Prince made a track titled "Shockadelica" because he said anything with a title like that should have a title track not just a lp name. He didn't want to keep being tied to Prince for his next career move.

Chronic Freeze shares memories of working with Prince.

Hi there fam,



Like all of you I am just floored and saddened beyond belief. My name is Chronic Freeze and I was an engineer at Paisley from 1988-1996. I just HAD to come on the board and offer each and every one of you my condolences on the passing of Prince. You, the fans, were so important to Prince. I can't even imagine how you all are coping with the news. Ive been in tears and the only thing that has helped soothe the pain has been reading all my old co-workers memories and seeing their pictures on our facebook group. This is surely a day I thought would never come.



Prince was my mentor. He was an incredible person to work for. He was very demanding of us. He demanded perfection and attention to detail. He worked tirelessly and we needed to keep up with him. I would not be the person I am today if I had not learned these important life lessons from him.



Although it was extremely hard work there were many moments of outright fun. When he learned that I hadnt heard the Black album, he had me rush down to the vault to get the master tapes so he could play it for myself and Femi (another engineer). We spent the next few hours listening to it on those amazing Westlake speakers at Paisley and got a running commentary from the creator of it himself. Sometimes he just felt like playing guitar so he would have us grab his favorite James Brown video and patch the audio up to the console so he could play along. What a treat it was to just sit and watch him play! One of my favorite moments was being in the studio for one of the most amazing auditions I have ever witnessed, the audition of Rosie Gaines! Levi had brought her out as they were old friends and the second she opened her mouth we were all floored. Im getting shivers just thinking about that day. My other favorite moment was jamming on bass with Prince on drums and his dad playing piano. All right, the only reason I got to play the bass was because Kim Bassinger (she played Vicky Vale in the Batman movie and hung out at the studio for a while) didnt want to, but little did Prince know that I had studied bass at Berklee and I was able to hold my own (barely, lol!!!)

There were some crazy times as well. We were at Record Plant LA in 1994 when the big earthquake hit. I remember how humbled he was when we witnessed all of LA and Hollywood coming together to help each other out. I was also in the studio when he decided to change his name to an unpronouncable symbol. That made for some "interesting" converstion. Then, of course, there was the time he accidentally found and listened to a cassette tape of me doing a karaoke version of "Kiss" His reaction was priceless and the story is best left for another time.



Anyways, thank you for letting me share with you. Its the only way I can cope right now. I was just going to post something on facebook but it felt far better to share with all of you, his biggest fans. I am so sorry for your loss, our loss. Its up to all of us now to keep him alive. Prince, if you are listening.. Thank you. You have touched so many souls. We are all stronger and our faith is unbroken because of everything you have taught us. Rest easy gentle soul.

No, this is the usual amount of time. Think of it this way, this lab is getting paid for every penny of work, they won't report back until they have gone through the details. This is not something they want to mess up with a spotlight this bright, THAT's why it is taking so long.

Alan dealt with a lot. He was the guy prince called at 3 in the morning. A lot of people just had too much to handle, Levi the guitarist/bassist hasn't said anything about Prince. He had some issues at the Park many moons ago. He doesn't want to be dragged in that again. Some of these guys who said slick shyt, it is because Prince made them do a lot of stupid shyt to test if it could happen.

But Prince fired people for nothing. He was too mercurial. That engineer I posted, he said how he was fired and I felt Chronic was fired from Prince because WB told him to give away free cd's and he did, Prince found out and fired him. Prince would fire his team members over misunderstandings not even giving them a chance to explain. You think of all the brain power that Prince had and its no wonder Paisley park stopped booking & making $$$.

I wouldn't work for Prince if I had the chance, Paisley Park was a place to lose your sanity if you weren't Prince.
