A 4 hour block of wrestling?? On a weeknight??

:whoa:

I think Fridays can work for wrestling, I just think Mondays are better for the hardcore

male demographic if that's what they're aiming for with a more 'serious' tone.

No no no 205 and NXT stays on the Network but SmackDown on Fox on Wednesday.

FOX aint moving their black night off of Wednesday.

especially now that the CW Network just smacked them in the face with "all-American" and prolly has another show on deck for next fall.

FOX aint budging. theyre gonna fight over us.

That’s why I said that Wednesday wouldn’t be possible because Lee Daniels got that night on lock, if that wasn’t the case though, I think Wednesday would be something to consider. Thursday can’t happen because of the NFL.

Back when I was a kid though, I didn’t realize that Friday Night was the death slot for shows, there was nothing like getting out of school on a Friday coming home and watching SmackDown on the CW at 7.

Friday night is only a death slot depending on the demographic.

smackdown will be fine, just like they were on CW, but even better.

I think they just want it to be like NXT or old school NWA/WCW. Which I think is a necessary move. While SmackDown has been alright this year, it's been booked as more of a diet RAW than anything, there's really not much difference between the two shows. Hell they're recycling the Strowman/Ziggler/Mac storyline with The Bar and the Big Show. Having SmackDown as the workrate show and RAW as the superstar/sports entertainment type show would be best for business imo.
Damn, so that’ll be the second time this year they’re running the same angle on raw and smackdown at the exact same time :dead:

The biggest issue with Smackdown's comedy is a WWE problem and not a Smackdown specific problem. *Most* of these writers are still stuck in the attitude era trying to do Southpark and Jackass style comedy when nobody is checking for that anymore. That was edgy and on trend in 1999, but it's corny and played out in 2018. Add to that they're trying to be Dane Cook frat boy funny in 2018 but also keep it PG. The result is a lot of cringe and struggle segments.

The comedic stuff that works *usually* is a result of the talent organically getting it over because of chemistry (Truth TV, Fashion Files), understanding what's culturally relevant/trendy and how to relate it to the audience (New Day) or people who understand how the entertainment part of sports entertainment works and actually being funny and entertaining (Miz, Rusev, Elias). We get a fair amount of comedy in the WWE...most of it is dated, corny, and cringe. That's a craft issue and reflects poorly on creative.

Less comedy isn't necessarily a bad idea in theory if they execute it by paying attention to what works with today's audience and when there's comedy emulating that rather than trying to serve is PG American Pie in 2018.

WWE comedy is WOAT and their dialogue sickens me these days, but the edginess I imagine this cast having trying to answer their demands of being "athletic" is gonna be even worse.

also one of the best WWE promos of the past year was having a family of athletes (Ill let you remember who) improv their brand of comedy with the Miz. That segment is better than any instance of Clay Matthews shyttily spearing Dean Ambrose

New Japan is not suited for weekly episodic TV at all breh, and ROH would tank in the ratings.

Do you think Harold would seriously turn down A deal from fox during their American expansion? Not to mention there in call a lot as it is now.

All they would have to do is turn a few shows into tapings and run some specials. It's not likely but possible if they ever find a partner.

Of course they COULD do it if they wanted/needed to. My point is that their model is not suited for weekly episode TV, so the show would tank in the ratings. They would have to change a 50 year model to please an audience that has zero relevance to how they do in Japan, which would make zero sense, so at the end of the day it would be New Japan on AXS 2.0 and that would last like 1 month on FOX before it gets a canned.

Breh, I understood your point. But fox wants WWE to be something that there not right now. all I'm saying is that it would have been cheaper to offer a sports-based product (ROH/NJPW) a spot to see what they could do. Not to mention WWE isn't an extremely safe pick for this spot either cause Smackdown might be on FS1/FS2 if they don't get good ratings themselves.

As for New Japan, they have already shown that there willing to change there model by running shows in different areas around the globe. I think the days of New Japan focusing solely on the Japanese market has been done for a while now.

They haven't really changed their model at all though. They run a couple of shows overseas that are booked more as house shows - or at best, as a tour opener -,but the way the shows are presented and done is the same as always. The modifications needed to do a competent weekly TV show in the US (even if it's on an FS2 type of channel) will force them to make such changes that it would stop making them what they've always been.

I get your point too btw, it's just that NJPW is not a good option at all. Even if it would be cheaper, it wouldn't be worth the shot for anyone involved.
