The issue is that Major League Baseball does a horrible job of marketing the sport because most of the owners either hate baseball or don’t even pretend to have any interest. Any given year there’s 10-12 owners if not more who are tanking not to stockpile picks, but purely because they don’t feel like spending money so for half the league the season is over in June and then the rest of the year becomes about dumping salary. Markets like Detroit, Chicago, Oakland, Miami, should be thriving, but they’re all filled with team owners whose only concern is keeping operating costs down.
