he didn't have to know him personally to use his moniker. rick ross didn't shout out freeway ricky ross.

But either way, maybe he named it after Rocafella the hustler and JD Rockerfeller the tyc00n and also the fact that he was selling rocks. Triple entendre, dont ask me how.
I said nothing about him having to know him personally. I said that it doesn't make sense to think that those guys chose to "pay homage" and name their company after someone who they've never even mentioned or talked about. Seriously, just think about that. Out of all the people who Jay Z has referred to and shouted out, he doesn't shout the guy once? That makes sense to you? Naming a company after someone who died in honor or to pay homage/respect is different than assuming someone who's alive nickname to further a career and image. Rozay didn't name himself after dude to pay homage or show respect, he did it to try to make it in the rap game. Running around shouting out the real Rick Ross would have defeated the purpose of assuming dude's identity in the 1st place. That wouldn't make sense would it? On the other hand, according to these Nas fanboys, Jay and them chose the name of their label as a way of paying homage to some BK drug dealer only to never mention or talk about him. That doesn't make sense, does it?

Time to dead all this shyt. Don't know why nikkas ain't just Google the shyt.

Now watch all these Nas stans either avoid my post like the plague or act ignorant. The argument was this infamous Rocafella was some Marcy hustler that Jay looked up to right?

Q: Tell me briefly how Roc-a-Fella Records got started?
A: I was managing and needed a name for my crew. My man T -Strong who was down with Original Flava came up with the name, Roc-a-Fella. While I was shopping my demos with Jay Z, I felt we weren t getting the response we deserved so we started to do things ourselves. Luckily we did this because now, instead of being a manager we now own a record company, clothing line and things like that. I think our success is due to the way we capitalized on every opportunity that was presented at the time.

@seemorecrizzy

word...cuz I definitely didnt know who dehaven was til Jay called him out and the nikka started gettin up on youtube.

real talk tho...if duke name rang the slightest of bells....Nas didnt need to go to Jaz to get that info...AZ is from BK (not to mention he was almost on the ROC) and though he may not have known the nikka personally, surely he knew of him....ESPECIALLY if word was the nikka had that package. just sayin...shyt sounds too coincidental to be totally fabricated.

um, this doesn't prove/disprove anything. It hurts Jay-Z fans more than Nas fans as They swore up and down they named it after the Rockerfellers. It also doesn't disprove the idea of it being named after some nikka named Rocafella or the Rockefellers. You just added more clouds.

I am not a Nas stan, but I still aint buyin that they didnt name it after this dude. He didnt have to be HEAVY in the street....just a guy they looked up to. In fact, thats probably the reason his peeps aint check Dame as u say because he was just a local dude they looked up to. They didnt have to be paying homage either...they just may have felt the name was proper. Either they named it after him or the real Rockefeller...but what about Jaz shouting dude out...is that fake? Is he shouting out someone from their hood who never existed?

You're the one fooling yourself. Everybody knows who the Rockerfellers were you numbskull, he didn't have to shout them out for people to make the connection between the Rockerfeller family and Jay Z, Dame, and Biggs naming their label Rocafella. I didn't say anything about what Jay Z must have done. I'm talking what does and doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense to believe that he named his company after somebody that he doesn't even mention in his lyrics. Especially all of the other people from his personal life that he's mentioned. He hasn't shouted out this cat in nann lyric, hasn't mentioned this guy in nann interview, but you're convinced tha he named his company after him? What is Dame as Biggs connection to this guy? They weren't from BK, why would they agree to allow their company to be named after some BK street cat? Again, I'm talking common sense.

Your just trollin at this point :snoop:
Im done:pachaha:

One Africa
as a kid i was a talented footballer (soccer for you), everyone who loved to play football would come to the grounds where we had tournaments against teams from other neighbourhoods etc, everyone knew each other and the best talents where known, there were football clubs which would come encourage players to join them, some of those who joined and got proper training later became professional footballer.
folk here:snoop:, before they made it when there was not a lot of money in hip hop,all these guys grew up together hanging out more or less in the same spots, competing with each other and hoping to be spotted by talent scouts. ..by doing this, people tend to share information, everyone knows each but that competiveness later affects these relationships. what i dont understand is that do u guys really think ...u know what..never mind..yall probably were still being walked to school around '99..

jay z and nas still laughing to the bank n shyt

Out here in my damn drawls
I started watching a documentary on Youtube about the Rockefellers a few minutes ago and stopped because the Ether line came to mind

Searched it on TheColi because I figured it had to be a thread on it :skip:

I knew that none of the Rockefellers died of aids but I never even bothered to find out what Nas meant

This is why I laugh at the "Jay came with facts" defense of Takeover. It suggests Ether was a bunch of ducktales when in reality it was mainly facts. Was Hov getting chased thru his buildings in 88? I don't know lol. But for the most part Ether was some real shyt.

And we gonna pretend like Nas having one hot album every 10 years is a fact? Hov uses that facts line to this day, which seems like a diss to me. Does anyone honestly think Hov doesn't like It Was Written lol?
