I’ve liked the last Several releases but I also at the same time I feel like he’s sort of coasting and possibly going through the motions a little bit. It’s sort of feels like he’s making the same album over and over. And I’m fine with that but when you say he may not be putting in a ton of effort I don’t necessarily disagree
His last 4 albums sound nothing alike to me I don’t know wtf yall talkin bout. How is Behold A Dark Horse anything REMOTELY like this?

He’s good. U don’t have to like everything. I think this shyt is dope. I like that KAOS album far less.
All of these dudes are buggin’ with horrible takes. One dude saying he needs to work with Daringer & Nicholas Craven, FOH! I dug this album off first listen.. More than Marcielago.

I don't like this more than Marcielago, but Craven is a knockoff of Roc as a producer, so why would I wanna hear Roc just work with a not as good version of himself? :dwillhuh:

Daringer's in between. Not a Roc knockoff, and I wouldn't be mad hearing him over Daringer again. The few joints they've done have been pretty dope. But I'm also not dying to hear Roc over Daringer either.

Not really sure who I wanna hear Roc over next. I'm actually not even that stoked for an Alc album. I mean I'd cop it day one, but even their energy IMO is either very hit or very miss. Some of both my absolutely favorite and least favorite Roc joints are produced by Alchemist.

I definitely wanna hear something from a different producer, but I just don't know who yet. :patrice:

This is by far his worst album imo! The production is lazy! I cant find one song worth listening to again! Hopefully the album with ALC will bring some life back into Roc.
Man, after Downtown '81 I wouldn't mind a Jake One produced Roc album. Jake is versatile as fukk. Dude can produce that, De La and DOOM, 50 and G-Unit, Hov, Ross, and then also produce for Tuxedo. The versatility has my interest piqued.

Dark Horse is the one that stands out to me as being nothing like any of the others. I thought it was just assumed based on how I'd spoken previously in the thread that I consider that one a real gem in terms of it sounding very different than anything else he's done.

IMO you can take most of the songs on Bitter Dose, Marcielago, and Mt Marci and interchange them with each other, and no one would be too thrown off by it. A lot of the joints are interchangeable to me. I guess Mt Marci and Marcielago sound more similar than Bitter Dose; that's the most experimental one.

It's still top shelf, elite rap. I'm not hating even a little bit. If I say anything critical, it's just because I'm holding Roc to the highest standard possible, because I think he's that good. He's possibly the best emcee on the planet and the most unique hip-hop artist alive. That's the only reason anything I'm saying might be sounding critical.

:hubie: I'm starting to get the vibe you can't say even one critical thing about Roc without getting pounced. And not you so much @spliz but definitely by some cats on here as well as some spots on some discord servers.

Thats been my main complaint with breh, i forget which album thread it was for breh, but I got the tomatoes thrown at me for mentioning anything about repetitiveness
You can't say anything even remotely critical of Roc man. I can say that Marcberg and Reloaded are the two most influential albums of the past decade, that Roc is at least a top 3 emcee on the planet, that he probably has the best solo discography of the past 10 years, and that he makes AOTY contenders every single year. And if I do all that prefacing, and ay anything critical afterwards, someone is still gonna say I'm tripping.

I think Roc has reached that DOOM level where you just can't really say anything that comes off as remotely negative. Ka is almost at that point too.

Not his best work. Two duds in a row for him with this and Marcelago. Probably a decent album if he consolidated the two.

Also, people talking about the lisp, would have to think this is just the grill. Noticed this first on the track with Ka from the last album, which was dope outside of that.
I really liked Ephesians on Marcielago with Ka.

It’s weird but it’s One of my favorite joints of theirs.

My fav version of Roc is around the U.N era, breh sounded great over those beats/killed all of that shyt. Current version doesnt do much for me.

Im proud of Roc for reaching this level though cuz i didnt see that but gotta call an Ace an Ace!

I been listening to Roc before the UN album! I drove 40 minutes to Fat Beats just to get his Strength & Honor mixtape lol

See, I much prefer his voice from Reloaded onwards. Even 2/3rds of Marcberg has his older (less deep) voice, and some of the joints on there recorded near the end of the sessions start featuring his newer era voice and flow. I actually do think I prefer his modern voice and flow, but that Pete Rock beat is fire.

But some of the production is just getting a little too experimental for me to listen unless I'm in a very particular mood.

Roc and Harry Fraud would prolly be dope. I just honestly want Roc and Spitta to finally do a collab. A bunch of joints in the vein of Richard Gear.

Roc found himself. His voice from Reloaded onwards is more signature and doper imo. He stands out from the pack. But it’s always gonna be them fans that want the old shyt. Every artist has to deal with this. None more than Nas. And oh yea. Saks Fifth is swagged the fukk out.
