What’s with all the recent overrating of Missy Elliot :gucci:

You all have been sleep.

Like 20 years ago, MTV had a Top 20 MC list voted on by fans. Missy was Top 10 and there was commentary on her placement from fellow artists which included Bone and Meth co-signs. Most of her albums have been critically acclaimed. Wayne talked about Missy's influence on him and how she was his favorite rapper way back on 2008. I've seen Missy's albums and songs pop up in a bunch of Best of's greatest albums of all time. This isn't even the first list of this type that Rollingstone has made.

I dont wanna say what everyone else has already said so I'll say this: this is why I don't present the same Fantano hate that others got. Hes at least trying. Hes given people like JPEG, Brockhampton, Death Grips (of which NOTHING I fukk with personally) basically huge career lifelines. He will bring people like Logic on and interview them and shyt on his shytty proje to when needed. Does he have a white leftist agenda? Yes. But whats Rolling Stones agenda?

Who exactly are they trying to pander to? Who are you trying to get brownie points from by bringing up Flo Milli? Is there anyone out there listening to Cardi B in 2022? Rae Sremmurd? And if you have that, where is, oh I don't know, fatty was, which is also just a singles record full of hits? You have Culture but no TM101. No Lupe Fiasco at all, and FIVE KANYE albums?

Someone posted the picture of all the pasty crackers in the Culture Council. Does any of them know what the fukk Ghostface is saying in Apollo Kids or One? I could go one and on, and officially rating it only a 3.5 out of five on the website but calling it the11th best hip hop album now? I promise they haven't personally listened to half the list in between all of them. You suck Missy Elliots dikk FOR NO REASON but there is no mention of Da Brat anywhere.

Why can't they be honest and put something they might have actually listened to and liked, like Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, or some other white shyt from the Rhymesayers or Def Jux, or something they have have gotten real appreciation out of when they were younger. Something that a white kid from the burbs can resonate with? This is pandering pathetic nonsense

EDIT: If they were going to including a datpiff fukking exclusive mixtape in Drought 3, then where is the stolen Evil Empire Drought is Over 2, with at least half of that shyt, unfinished or not, being better than most of C3?

If Fantano made this same list, I guarantee it would be met with the same disdain.

Jeezy's TM101 made the list. It ended up in like the 90's.

I fully understand how Kanye could have five albums on the list and not list Lupe.

And yes, Missy is there for a reason. Much more important than Brat. Missy Elliott was a game changer much more so than Brat.

Who's to say this isn't them being honest? All these albums could very well be something that they regularly listen to.

An exercise in faux inclusivity.

Female and gay rappers are over-represented on this list.

It’s the “everyone deserves a medal” mentality. Everyone deserves representation no matter what the subject matter is or what is actually being represented. If or when aMC who happens to be gay makes an album worthy of top 100/200 etc all time, I’ll put them in the list no doubt but from the stuff I’ve heard on the radio Lil Nas ax is basically just a female rapper in a male body. Like you could have Nicki or Cardi spit that Montero song and I wouldn’t hear anything different.

No Gangstarr "Moment Of Truth"

No Blu "Below the Heavens"

No AZ "Aziatic"

No Hot Boyz "Guerrilla Warfare"
I was shocked to see no Moment Of Truth on there... That is easily one of their best albums (Some say it's their best) they did. The list is just pure sh*t.
I know it's dated now but I was also shocked to not see Onyx Bacdafucup on the list, that was huge when it came out back in the days. Two I was shocked not to see.
Below The Heavens is a banger I agree and I am thinking whether I saw AZ on the list at all now? Was Doe Or Die on there? If not........
