Queensbridge legend Roxanne Shantè will be inducted into Berklee College's inaugural Hip-Hop Hall of Fame on November 28 in Boston Massachusetts. The induction will take place at the school's performance center by its Africana Studies Division. Emmett G. Price, dean of the Africana Studies Division at Berklee, spoke with Chronicle about the honor of inducting Shantè.

“Berklee is the world’s preeminent institution of contemporary music, dance, and theater; of course we are going to celebrate Hip-Hop in grand fashion with an unforgettable concert and the launch of the Berklee Hip-Hop Hall of Fame,” Price said. “What a tremendous privilege and a deep honor to have the legend herself, Roxanne Shantè, join us for this historic and monumental occasion.”

Shantè came to prominence in the mid '80s after answering UTFO's hit, "Roxanne,Roxanne" with "Roxanne's Revenge." The answer set off a firestorm prompting dozens of answers in the "Roxanne Wars." As a member of the Marley Marl led Juice Crew collective, Shantè was responsible for the early success of Biz Markie and MC Shan.

Shantè will join Juice Crew Members Big Daddy Kane, MC Shan, Kool G Rap, Craig G, Tragedy, and Cold Chillin' Records co-founder Tyrone "Fly Ty" Williams is coming to New York's Apollo Theatre on November 20. According to Apollo Theatre archivist Brad San Martin, he unearthed several Cold Chillin' video tapes shot in 1988 that were intended for a home video release chronicling the then upstart label and its soon to be stars. "The master tapes were destroyed in a fire and all that survived were a few VHS safety copies," Martin said.

On November 20 at the Apollo we are celebrating the discovery of these tapes, the legacy of Cold Chillin' Records, and the contributions of the label's founder, Tyrone "Fly Ty" Williams. We will be screening selections from the tapes, hosting conversations with Williams along with many of the original participants and the video's original director Ralph McDaniels (of Video Music Box fame). The showcase will conclude with a short performance by Big Daddy Kane, Shanté, MC Shan, Marl, and more. The event is hosted by Lyricist Lounge's Ant Marshall."
