Hell if Donovan could just carry over his regular season splits (26/4/5 on 44/38/84 in 33mpg) to the playoffs, that would be acceptable.

Bc that 36/5/5 on 52/51/95 bubble ish... that’s probably unreasonable.

However, he simply can’t go back to those 32/25/72 playoff shooting splits. He was 21 and 22 years old then, but at 24 it’s time to put on the big boy pants.

For some reason, he always seems to pick up the pace and get better during the 2nd half of the season. Plus they have Conley, Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanović to help carry some of the load now so it doesn't necessarily have to be all on him offensively.

They just need to figure out how to not make Gobert a complete liability on the floor in the playoffs.

He’s going to run away with the DPOY award (sorry Simmons) and really has established himself as this generation Dikembe Mutumbo
He’s nowhere near Mutumbo in impact.

I watched Utah get abused in the paint for two straight postseasons against Houston. Gobert didn’t make a difference

I saw on Sportscenter this morning that 34 of their wins this season have come by double digits :picard:

Sooner or later, we need to start having that discussion about Gobert making the HOF as a 3rd DPOY puts him into the discussion.

They're the best 3 point shooting team in the league

Rudy is a beast with the defensive and it's a chance he will walk away with 4 or 5 defensive player of the year awards before he retires. Hell he probably should already have 3 but the media was so fixated in having Giannis be the first since Dream to win MVP and DPOY that they didn't give him one last season.

One of his common criticisms is that his defense doesn't carry over as well in the postseason.

Which is why I don't care THAT much about his impact in the RS. He definitely adds wins to their schedule, but when you're getting bounced in rounds 1 and 2, does it matter THAT much? Especially since they have had talent these last couple years. They really don't have an excuse to not get to the finals this year with the Lakers being banged up, LAC having less talent than last year, and Jamal Murray being out for the season.

They should be able to get out of the west.

Lol bro what

The Rockets offense created that match up issue for Gobert, perimeter defenders couldn’t hold Harden and we kno what Harden does to bigs on 2-1

What does this have to do with what he's doing this season? Are players not allowed to grow and get better?
My post is in response to someone sayings he’s the modern era Mutumbo. I have issue with that statement. He’s not as impactful as Mutumbo was on defense. Mutumbo did it for 20 years almost. Remember he was the center for Houston throughout most of their 22 game win streak after Yao went down and that was at age 40. He barely lost a step as he got older.

that Gobert mutumbo comparison was disrespectful. I wouldn’t even compare Gobert to Ben Wallace. If you’re a going to compare him to all-time great defenders make sure he does it when it matters most because he’s never even lead his team past the 2nd round.

He’s way quicker than mutumbo on the offensive end and he’s good at pick and polls and screens IMO he passed mutumbo already but how the game is played today it’s not as noticeable as before.

he’s a weird player to really tat cuz he has no offensive shot and can’t play really passes 34 a night but his impact is felt. He really shuts the paint down.

gobert being the most disrespected DPOY makes a lot of sense tbh

only gets worse when teams gameplan for him in the playoffs and he turns into a complete nonfactor

Borderline, but the 4th All-NBA team he'll get this year puts him in the discussion too. Gonna have to get at least a couple more All-Star/All-NBA selections to be comfortable tho.

Weird to compare him to Mutombo by using a situation Mutumbo was never in. Nothing Mutombo faced is at all like that Houston team.

I don't have an opinion on Gobert vs. Mutombo, just think the Houston series shouldn't be the basis for that.

How many times did Mutombo make it past the 2nd round when he was a starter? :comeon:
The only reason to hate this comparison is because Mutombo is old and retired.
