Yeah but if The Coli (or SOHH) existed back then that Dogg Food thread would do bigger numbers than Ill Communication.

Ill Communication is a great album but it has a lot of alternative shyt on there that a regular hip hop fan ain't gonna necessarily like. Beasties never got that much love on SOHH for these exact reasons.
Oh, you mean reply numbers?

Pitchfork review everything. But who you think is going to play their festival, Gunna or RTJ?

The majority of RTJ's fans are indie rock listeners who don't follow hip hop music. RTJ just ain't part of the culture like that. They're in that alt-rap lane that's more relevant with college white kids and hipsters than full time hip hop heads.

Gunna's music is a complete representation of hip hop music in 2020. This is what hip hop sounds like in 2020. You may not like that. But it is what it is. RTJ veers far to much in the direction of electronic music for this forum. A lot of these beats I wouldn't classify as hip hop. There's collabos with people like Josh Homme. This album is at least 50% alternative/electronic. So of course one of the most prominent artists in hip hop today is gonna do bigger numbers. This is like in 95 asking why the new Beastie Boys album ain't doing the same numbers as the new Dogg Pound album.

But I'm sure if you go to the indie rock version of The Coli their RTJ thread is doing numbers while no one is mentioning Gunna

That is bullshyt. RTJ is hip hop..

The answer to your first question is BOTH. They both have a sizable white audience that enjoys their music. Plus, I never understood the "since white people love it, that means black people hate it" argument at all. fukk do i care what they enjoy?

Seems like these brothers enjoyed the album :sas2:

Thank you they loved Pac too. Guess we should stop listening to him too. Smh

I'm still trying to hear the techno/electronic about these beats. These shyt knock.

I myself love lyrics that take time to digest. Replay value is high cause you still catching shyt months later. Unlike this simple bullshyt EVERYBODY DOING..

Carried the flag in some other men's name
Loaded my weapon and swore to them vengeance and stepped with aggression right into the fray
Into the haze
Into the murk
Told me to prove to them what I was worth
We’ll teach you to move without mercy and give you the tools to go after the causers of hurt
You'll become death
You will take breath
This is for everything you’ve ever loved
Use all the pain that you’ve felt in your life as the currency go out and trade it for blood
You are not you
You are now us
We are the only ones that you can trust
You’ll become fear
They’ll become dust
Before this moment you didn't mean much
You are the smoldering vessel of punishment born to do nothing but justify us
Give us your empathy we’ll give you lust
Let yourself go my son time to grow up
Give up your childish obsession with questioning
Anything we don't tell you is irrelevant
Everything you've ever been is replaced by the metal and fire of the weapon you clutch

Damn everyone was praising this shyt so I went back and it grew on me. If you’re able to get past el p’s stupid flows he’s actually saying some shyt and their verses really complement each other. When I first heard the song with 2 chains I hated that shyt but damn KM killed that shyt :takedat:
