There were still Choctaw in the state, but the tribes still could've been driven from the area where the film takes place.
Both things can be true at the same time.
For example, my family lives in Lawrence Co., MS, and I never saw any Asians in the area until I was in my early 30's. My people would've said there were no Asians around, either.
However, I'm sure there were plenty Asians in the state, especially near the Gulf.
I agree ...the issue here is the placement of Choctaw. And the statement made in the movie like all Choctaw was out the Sippi.

The mf film industry need to start givin' him his damn flowers cuz I think the most of us know how much of a treasure he is.
Surprisingly, on Reddit, people were giving all kinds of compliments to Delroy. Usually, cacs, like to highlight the white actors on there, but them dudes were showing mad respect to Delroy. I was happy to see it. Especially, since many were clearly fans, going into depth about his roles.
