Facial ticks and stuff I get, but kinda fukked up and selfish going to a televised event like that if your tourette's is that bad.

He probably doesn't have coprolalia. It's a characteristic that only 10-20 percent of people with tic disorders like Tourette's have. People with coprolalia will say swears and slurs from time to time, and can't control it.

They probably shouldn't have let the dude suffering from coprolalia in the room, although that opens a different set of problems because that could be considered discrimination by virtue of disability.

He should be allowed to be in the room, 100%...

But he should be the one, as the person who best knows how his Tourette's presents, to decide not go.

He knows that he's likely to start throwing around slurs and foul language at inappropriate times.

If that was a kids awards show, I'm sure he'd accept the invite but graciously and respectfully decline. If it was a women's awards, and he had the propensity to yell "whore" when he sees women, he'd probably say "thank you, but I probably shouldn't go".

But he decided that it was worth the risk, and that he'd be willing to see if he can go a night without calling two black people n-words in a room full of people.
