Bruh….
when the long lost Parliament member appeared, in my head I was saying “I really hope Coogler isn’t about to do what I think he’s doing..:skip:

Soon as the DJ and Dhalism with the happy feet got introduced I was :snoop::dead:

That scene and the KKK scene you’re talking about are PERFECT examples of Coogler having an idea in his head and no matter how the accompanying scenes flow, it’s going in the movie no matter what.

40 to 3 is crazy :russ:

He really said this build up that I carefully and meticulously worked on for the first hour…the fukk these crackas at tho :russ: They don’t need no damn pacing or structure.

Grenade bytch :russ:

When they appeared, half of me shared similar thoughts; “why are they here in the daytime conveniently when the battle at night was over”, other half “how long the uber gonna take I gotta get me some wings :mjlit:

Also I didn’t stay for the post credit scene but reading that makes me happy I didn’t lol. Ryan really gotta lock in with some A1 writers because pretty much damns the entire point of the vampires in the film.

So essentially they have free will….to have free will, but none of that was explained or shown for the overarching story but using MBJ traveling around as filler was a necessity :dead:

Knowing vampire lore and them not really spoonfeeding how it works here i think once the vampire that sired them is killed they just lose the Hivemind attached to it instead of them all burning. Thats how i took it. Once he died its like they wake up and say let me go get some pu$$y or whatever they individual desires are :russ:

The Other A
That’s a movie :whew: The criticisms in here are hilarious though.

Breh these dudes are way too damn overly critical :snoop:

Yea, there are many agents and saboteurs in here.

They wouldnt be going that hard if Nolan, Scorces, Fincher or some other non black director made this movie :mjpls:

They don’t wanna see us get these opportunities

Am I being overly critical of it?? Probably :ehh:....but the flip side ro that is you nikkaz being overly praising about an average movie..

Was it decent? Yea..

Was it OMG THIS WAS GREAT? fukk no

Aside from the beautiful southern photography and black folk togetherness and the super dope music scene... everything else was mehh at best.. That music scene saved it imo... All this shyt about Michael b Jordan deserving an academy award and the deep.meaning behind the bird taking a shyt blah blah blah you mfs smoking crack the movie was NOT that good chill out

And foh about Nolan and Scorsese.. all them directors have made trash/ missed the mark movies once or twice.

Coogler can be another M. Night Shyamalan and ya know what... its ok

Praising everything he does just because he gave us the masterpiece black panther is ridiculous

in the movie she said "if you don't get the fukk out my face...", and if you closed your eyes, you would've sworn a black woman said that

and she said something like "you been robbin' banks but can't steal this p*ssy", and the theatre was like "oh, nah!" :picard:

i know nothing about Steinfeld outside of Spider-Man and Arcane lol

DAWG what is with this generation of ppl who go to the movies and yell out stuff to the screen like THEY in the movie?!

That’s why I made sure I saw “Sinners” early that morning, cuz I knew it wasn’t gonna be a bunch stupid young ppl in there that early who think Coogler cast them in the movie too

:dead:
Man this one girl was singing along the church hymn theme at the beginning of the movie like she was part of that church congregation. :snoop:

You hit the nail on the head. Out of all Ryan’s movies, I think this one showed his limitations as a writer more than any before. 3 major scenes stood out to me as clunky and poorly done, that I know most ppl loved

1. The music time set piece. Completely took me out of the movie. Thought it was corny, campy, and didnt flow at all with the movie before or after. Felt like Ryan just had a vision for it and was gonna put it in regardless. I can dive deeper into why I don’t like it, but overall just as you said, it was disjointed imo.

2. The post credit scene. This was probably the most damaging part of the movie honestly. It makes the vampires way too human. To give Stack the ability to have the self control to listen to Smoke and just leave Sammie alone and live his life with his girl makes it seem like the vampires were right all along. Like what are the actual downsides of being a vampire if your faculties are still with you and you can choose good? Like you’re a soulless, blood thirsty vampire right? If not, we gotta have a discourse lol. Just seemed to step on any type of good vs evil of the vampire vs humans theme. Once again, thought the scene was unnecessary and tacked on and more of Ryan just having a really cool scene he wanted to use vs one really necessary for the overall story.

3. Smoke killing the KKK was just some gratuitous, “I want my Django” moment type shyt. I love seeing some clansman get fukked up in a movie, don’t get me wrong. But this was sooooo forced and goofy that it actually pissed me off. And Coogler is a much better writer than this. Once again this scene felt tacked on, instead of truly woven into the story. Like we got a picture of a clans gown and one sentence from the main vampire of set up. Why would the clansmen not go on a night raid, when the juke would be packed with nikkas, to attack? They wait until morning, when it’s all cleared up? Why? If he wanted this scene, I feel like story wise, he could’ve easily elevated that whole showdown. Instead we just get a cheap, tacked on scene, meant to be a suicide. Disappointing. Lowkey, I feel like Ryan looked ant the movie and was like “damn, we really just killed like 40 nikkas to 3 white ppl. That doesn’t sit well with me. Let’s even it out :banderas: “.

1. The music time set piece was corny to me too, and it hurt to feel that way because the idea is really cool and thoughtful.
I thought what really hurt this scene was not letting Sammie’s blues ride the whole sequence. We can visually see the different eras of Black music, we didn't need to hear it too.

2. As the head vampire, it’s implied that Remmick has mind control of his horde, so Smoke shouldn’t have been able to convince Stack to do anything. And not without Remmick knowing considering they share memories. In horror, vampirism is supposed to be a blight on both vampires and humans alike. Annie says as much when she explains vampires to Smoke and crew; “their souls are trapped walking the earth filled with hate” not the exact quote but that’s the gist of it. He undermined the scariness of his monsters by pushing too far into the cool factor. We’re not supposed to wanna be your movie monster in a horror film.:russ:

3. This was just incredibly bad writing.
As you mentioned, why would the klan pass up the opportunity to kill a large group of unsuspecting Black people having a good time? What if the night went as planned and they showed up in the morning to an empty joint?
It felt tacked on, and there were better ways to weave fukking up klan members into the story.

4. The vampires had access to the juke joint twice, and they willingly left both times. Mary took a bite out of Stack and just hauled ass back outside. Why?
There was an entire dancefloor of confused people. Bite somebody else and get a chain reaction started.

Did we over praise? Probably:ehh:

But maybe it’s cuz we get movies like this once every blue moon.

it’s not like those average white movies we overly praise that get made 200 hundred times a year by white folks

We don’t nitpick and kill them, let’s not kill our own.

There haven been oscar movies that are straight trash that we see people insanely glaze.

The Irishman wasn’t a great movie too me but people was turning to Sara Jay and sucking its dikk like it was a sour apple blow pop.

Na man, let’s praise and celebrate these movies until they become a norm like the white counterpart movies. We don’t want Trump to pull a DEI Hollywood to start limiting shyt like this, searching yall “criticism“ to amplify it and politicize it to minimize our opportunities to tell these stories.

Hell I’m not a Tyler Perry fan…. Never seen a TP movie but I respect his hustle, grind, dedication and commitment to tell the stories he tells and employ the people he employ

Have to see these type of the films in the hood where Black people feel free to talk to the screen. I didn't get to experience the sound quality yall did but that's the sacrifice.

The dope thing about Atlanta is you can get both. I saw it in imax with a black crowd screaming, clapping, and yelling at the screen. :blessed:

The tension during moments like Sammie looking thru the peephole was :wow: you could feel the ENTIRE crowd like :lupe:
