When the vampires started praying with preacher boy in the water and remmick was baptizing him I now think Coogler may have been alluding to the fact that slave owners and klansmen were also "christians" but weaponized the religion and still carried out evil on black folks while claiming to follow the Bible.

Remmick himself said they used that prayer to justify killing his people and even though he hated it, it still brought him comfort. I think the message was pretty clear from Coogler that religion was used to lull people and justify evil deeds. He just had the white man outright say it.

when the long lost Parliament member appeared, in my head I was saying “I really hope Coogler isn’t about to do what I think he’s doing..”

That scene and the KKK scene you’re talking about are PERFECT examples of Coogler having an idea in his head and no matter how the accompanying scenes flow, it’s going in the movie no matter what.

When they appeared, half of me shared similar thoughts; “why are they here in the daytime conveniently when the battle at night was over”, other half “how long the uber gonna take I gotta get me some wings “

Also I didn’t stay for the post credit scene but reading that makes me happy I didn’t lol. Ryan really gotta lock in with some A1 writers because pretty much damns the entire point of the vampires in the film.

So essentially they have free will….to have free will, but none of that was explained or shown for the overarching story but using MBJ traveling around as filler was a necessity

I admire the swing for the fences with that sequence but anachronisms take me out of a project every time, lol. That being said, at least it plays a role in the story and is definitely more touching than what Misha Green pulled in Lovecraft Country, blasting Cardi B and shyt in the 1950s for reasons I still don’t know.

That scene was so haunting and layered to me because it showed that his prayer couldnt stop the human evil already in the south or the supernatural type. Thats why he made the decision he did at the end. Does anybody have any good documentaries on rootwork or new orleans hoodie?

After letting this digest more this was a good film for the general public but i do feel there are levels to this film shyt. Id really like to see Donald Glover do a full length horror film too.

I think they coulda cut out the whole music montage looking back or at best have various black musicians from different time periods appear as if they were always in the room
