I really liked that critique on mixed/white passing people trying to use their privilege in both spaces.

This film is definitely gonna rub some people the wrong way. I was sat next to a white couple and every now then, I would look over to see how they were reacting to the scenes :lolbron:

Going back to the messages that Ryan Coogler put in the film, I found it interesting that
after the vampires left the first time, the Black people organized & started getting ready for a SHTF situation. It was the Asian woman who lost her ish and invited the vampires back in.
Maybe my tin foil kufi is on too tight, but that seemed like Coogler saying that Black people know how to survive jacked up times (like our current political/economic times). We know how to struggle. When other groups face adversity, they can't handle the pressure.
Or...am I reaching?

That’s exactly what I got.

Those things are witchcraft and demonic

And African Americans gonna be in for a rude awakening cosplaying and jumping on this “these were are real ways” bandwagon (I understand why because we long for our stolen past)

But talk to some real Africans living overseas.

This ish is real and ppl don’t f with it never have and can’t understand yall new love affair with “thinking” it’s the way.

I got more but I’ll let the thread rock

they gon find out :francis:

It's a reason the film is called Sinners, it ain't a game. Film was fire though.

in the film all them negus died too, they make you think the prayer didn't work but actually it did, it stalled Remmick just enough for Smoke to come through with the 'SAVE.' Samuel is the only man that prayed to God for his life and he lived.

I think race is reaching a point where gender is, in terms of certain people being unable to discuss it without heavily leaning on a set group of generic buzzwords of academic speak. Like how everything is "patriarchy" for instance.

Saying Remmick isn't racist is NOT saying he's a good guy. In many ways he is a force of nature-type villain. Something that used to be pretty common in fiction but has disappeared as writers focus more on humanizing antagonists. Which is why he kind of reminds me of The Judge in Blood Meridian, or Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. Coogler stated that he's been around for hundreds of years, which would explain why Remmick said that Christians killed his people. Christians purged and slaughtered Celtic/Irish pagans for many years. His history was erased and replaced, to the point where he felt that controlling the music was his only way to get his culture back.

This makes a lot more sense than the initial ham fisted attempts to turn this into a tale of using white privilege to exploit black people, or how the Irish (who at one point were treated like black people) eventually became black. That's not what it's about. But when that is the only frame of reference you have due to a decade of Twitter-based pseudo academic wankery of course that's what folks will grasp to.
Black marxists are the most bitter people alive :laff:

We don’t know, so we’re filling the blanks. I also appreciate that and why I don’t think a sequel is needed. This just works great without having to explain everything.
Why the hell do people want or need a sequel?! :dahell:

I think he just represented white people. How you got to invite them in and how they cause havoc and how religion means nothing to them because it was used to exploit them too.
Yeah I picked up on that as well. I'm not one to watch movies and try to pick apart stuff that has "inner meaning" or whatever, but I definitely caught a lot of it.

Im not a movie person at all ..Last shyt I’ve seen in theatres was Black Panther 1 :mjlol:

I feel it’s impossible to tell a good story in 2 hours and the rushed second half of this movie just reinforced that feeling .

I absolutely loved the first half..The character building was excellent and all the actors did their thing ..

The dance break/musical stuff took me out …not because it was music but adding in the “sounds of the future” with Bootsy and hip hop was just odd.If they wanted to include a scene like that just have it on some ancestors shyt and it would’ve been cool.

The second half was mid ..felt rushed. Once the action died down I started to love the love the movie again..The kid scene/post credit scene was very good ..overall I’ll give it a 7.5/10 but like I said that’s mostly because I’m not a movie guy to begin with . I can easily see how some people can have it at a 9 or so.
Yeah, adding the rock and hip hop elements was a bad move IMO. I understood what Coogler was going for, but it kind of took me out of it.

Movie was a hit fs. Of course the non FBAs did their part in letting white folks wreak havoc on us
full

A prequel about the twins would be good if they wanted to add movies but there’s no need for any sequels after the after credits scene
