i would see cottonfields all the time in south carolina down in the country where my people are from. oceans of cotton. it was something i never really thought about because i was so young. it made me think for a minute hearing him describe seeing one for the first time. hell i remember when i was real real young one of my older cousins going to pick cotton with some other Black dudes who came and picked him up in a big ass truck. that was their job.

that said, i wouldn't wanna spend a whole lotta time touring plantations and shyt like that, with the exception of those like the one Harriet led the raid on. i'd rather see where great battles were fought. Black units fought with distinction at many places in the Civil War. I'd rather see those.

Coogler is a proud black american man, but he has pan-african sensibilities. In this very same interview he lists pan-african authors as some of his research points for the movie. In the movie he makes a direct connection to Africa (this is without mentioning how affectionately he speaks of Africa often)
