I'm a at Pats fan and I went to Michigan... lookit, this sort of things happens all of the time. John Navarre set records at Michigan, so did Henne , so because we are used to having the attention on whatever we're doing, we sold those two as legit QBs nationally. Mallett is not very different.

As far as the Pats go, they struck out with this experiment and they are lucky to be able to get rid of him and still have something legit in his place. Brady is gonna be gone soon, hopefully the team is ready for a new way.

I know this thread is jokes but it kinda sucks for Mallett that he got hurt last year. I doubt there would've been a competition if he finished out the season last year. Either he would've earned the trust to enter this year as the guy or he would've made it clear he's not the guy. From where we stand now it looks like the latter would be more likely I guess. :yeshrug:

I mean he kinda, sorta did. He came in too late last year to unseat Fitz right away especially when you consider he had never even started a game at the time. In practice he ran O'Brien's system better and he was named starter after a bye week, which is when teams usually make qb changes. His numbers in the Cleveland start won't wow anyone but if you watched the game you noticed him running the offense much better than Fitz and he looked really promising. Also, if I'm remembering correctly Arian was hurt that game and Blue really benefited from the uptempo Mallett ran (Fitz never really ran the offense at the same speed for whatever reason). His next start was him playing the entire game with an injury to his throwing arm which turned out to be a season ender.

I don't have anything for this though. By all accounts Hoyer has been a little better since ota's and won the job fair and square. It might be as simple as Mallett just isn't a starter in the NFL. Part of me does wonder "what if" though. It's easy to say what someone can/can't do but all this story makes me think about is how not everyone gets the same opportunities or margin for error. There's a good chance Mallett never gets the opportunity he had last year again.
