BDIS is a departure album no one wanted at the time. RZA is hitting his lyrical and production peaks in 95-97 and decides to make his debut a freestyle album over a deliberate change in production style. That said, on its own, it's a pretty good album. If you go in knowing it's a freestyle album, you can appreciate the vocals for what they are vs expecting Forever/PSS RZA, and the production, while not at the level of previous Wu projects, is still pretty damn good. I've always wished they actually put out the BDIS instrumental album they advertised.

Digital Bullet is RZA's best solo. He's back to spitting & it has mostly great production. There are speed bumps in the godawful Domestic Violence 2 & the Shady/Break Bread/Bong Bong run in the middle but, otherwise, dope ass album.

It's not minimalist. He just has the drums (or lack of them) as the dominant instrument throughout the album. Chamber Music has 3 separate percussive tracks on that beat. Evil ass Careful has a constantly shifting drum that adds weapon sound effects and damned jingle bells to the percussion.

And so on... That's another album I'd like a full instrumental version of...

If you get a chance, relisten to the album's production again keeping in mind that, instead of the typical active element being the sample or the other instruments playing over a basic breakbeat/drum sequence, the drums are what's being actively played with and manipulated throughout each beat over more static sampling & sounds. Might have you hear it a little different on that spin.

:ehh:

Same exact way I feel about Digital Bullet. I think Wu no longer being in the spotlight is the reason it's so underrated.

I fukkin knew this was gonna be stroke of death

I used to not like it as a kid. But I grew to really think it was dope. Very creative. RZA did fall off but he was still very dope at this point IMO. It’s just an experimental joint.
