This is legit terrible. I actually think the vocals are worse than the beat, Drag ons flow doesn't fit the beat and one of my pet hates is hooks that are the exact same melody as the beat.

MAN I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY THAT HATED THAT!! And it was common for a lot of early hip hop songs. One of the positive things i can appreciate today is the evolution of the melody by rappers. At least something good came out of that over the years :blessed:

Not true. Solomon Childs said in an interview no one like the beat, not even Rza. It was a mistake. He told Rza let him have a stab at it and made his verse in 10 minutes. Once he rapped it, Ghost said let him go in and then Rza. No one liked the beat.

I don't know why, but this is hysterical. I'm just imagining the conversation. :russ:

GHOST: RZA, why you make this? Got me fukked up, I'm trying to change minds with this album. :stopitslime:

RZA: I know. This is trash, let me throw it out. :francis:

GHOST: I want it. Give me a minute, I need to write the verse. :mjlit:

RZA: nikka, what? You just said that it was......... :mjtf:

GHOST: Give me a minute to write the verse is what I said! :damn:

*weeks later, the executives are hearing the final cut of Supreme Clientele*

EXECUTIVE #1: Ghostface, I don't understand what.......this "Stroke of Death," why does it sound like that? :scusthov:

GHOST: You don't like it? That's cool, RZA forced me to put it on here, you know what I'm saying? :yeshrug:

RZA: I told you that beat is trash, what are you talking about? :hhh:

GHOST: Stop lying, nikka, you know what you did. :stopitslime:

EXECUTIVE #2: I think you should replace this song with something more "Ice Creamey." Do you have "Ice Creamey" songs here? :troll:

GHOST: Does it sound like I'm doing that shyt on this album? And I'm not going back in the studio, I need to pick up some Wallabees. :martin:

EXECUTIVE #1: You're going back in the studio.

GHOST: I'll go back if you pay me $500,000 right now. I dare you, pay me. :beli:

*pause*

EXECUTIVE #1: fukk it, put the album out. :unimpressed:

Lol that shyt was prevalent in that “swizz Beatz, Chinese production era”

Somewhat agree but we're talking production which was dope.

David Banner produced that beat. (But if you're just saying bad RZA song, agreed)
production was ok... he was going on the minimalist sound imo

@BuddahMAC what is your opinion of Digital Bullet and Bobby Steele in Stereo?

BDIS is a departure album no one wanted at the time. RZA is hitting his lyrical and production peaks in 95-97 and decides to make his debut a freestyle album over a deliberate change in production style. That said, on its own, it's a pretty good album. If you go in knowing it's a freestyle album, you can appreciate the vocals for what they are vs expecting Forever/PSS RZA, and the production, while not at the level of previous Wu projects, is still pretty damn good. I've always wished they actually put out the BDIS instrumental album they advertised.

Digital Bullet is RZA's best solo. He's back to spitting & it has mostly great production. There are speed bumps in the godawful Domestic Violence 2 & the Shady/Break Bread/Bong Bong run in the middle but, otherwise, dope ass album.

It's not minimalist. He just has the drums (or lack of them) as the dominant instrument throughout the album. Chamber Music has 3 separate percussive tracks on that beat. Evil ass Careful has a constantly shifting drum that adds weapon sound effects and damned jingle bells to the percussion.

And so on... That's another album I'd like a full instrumental version of...

If you get a chance, relisten to the album's production again keeping in mind that, instead of the typical active element being the sample or the other instruments playing over a basic breakbeat/drum sequence, the drums are what's being actively played with and manipulated throughout each beat over more static sampling & sounds. Might have you hear it a little different on that spin.
