As for blackness,
It's no different than reading domestic comic books or watching family guy/simpsons . Both of which are non-black productions with few exceptions, mostly centered on the escapades of non-black characters.
As for adulthood,
Just as there are lines between Clifford the big red dog picture books and marvel 616 punisher comics, manga/manhua/donghua have their distinctions also.
or alternatively just how there is a line between courage the cowardly dog on cartoon network and adult-minded South Park on comedy Central; there is an equally distinct line between childhood classics like DBZ and contemporary adult stuff like psychopass or Tokyo ghoul.
When you are actually in Japan, the anime which American adults like is in the same time slot as the lateshow and on a channel equivalent to adultswim or tbs.

I don't know how they operate, but from what I heard back in the day. the people doing the translations from Korean to English are other Koreans. Like the author, they probably don't know a thing about America, and didn't realize what they were getting in to.
