MaybeWould there be a salary floor, though?
Iunno
We have garbage or average players making $30mm though and the only reason that happens is because the true super stars are capped
MaybeWould there be a salary floor, though?
So why don't the players do something about it then?Bu...bu....but competitive balance. Bu...bu...but collective bargaining. It's bullshyt and we all know it's bullshyt but because we are jealous of athletes, especially hoopers, and more invested in our own entertainment and familiarity we not only let it ride we ride for it like it's not bullshyt.
Profit sharing solves for that in my opinionThe problem is all owners are not created equal. If there was no salary mostly the larger market owners would have all the advantages. A lot of these small market teams don't have the cash to compete.
NBA has had a salary cap for 40 years and you cherry picking the last 7? We had exactly what you are talking about for the majority of that time. We just watched Brady and the Pats hoard rings and now we watching Mahomes and the Chiefs.Crazy post. Go look at European soccer if you want to know what the NFL/NBA would look like without a salary cap. Just a handful of teams monopolizing the elite talent and winning the bulk of titles.
The NBA having 7 different Champions in 7 consecutive years would never happen if what y'all are proposing came to fruition. And I'm not sure the NFL would have the same appeal if big market teams like the Cowboys, Pats, Jets, Rams, Giants etc were winning each year because they could simply outspend everybody else.
Because the owners are way better at this and have played divide and conquer perfectly and way more fans bytch on their behalf. So why don't the players do something about it then?
People are bytching on behalf of the players when they could do something about it if they really wanted to.
A "true free market" would inevitably lead to the number of teams being cut in half, and then you'd see all those players who'd make up the remaining teams likely defecting to other leagues across the world (likely taking an overwhelming majority of fans with them).NBA has had a salary cap for 40 years and you cherry picking the last 7? I used to agree with you. But the facts just don't support it and beyond that salary caps are nothing but and excuse for owners to control costs and be cheap and non-competitive. A true free market would force teams to compete and actually open stuff up more and moreover and more importantly actually be fair.
On top of this being impossible we just concluded a 40+ stretch where every NBA champion from the Western conference was either a Cali or Texas team.Salary cap rotates the talent and probability for winning in a league
Everybody would just play in Texas or California without one
Maybe...maybe not. We have seen sports without a cap do just fine and have variance. If you cant keep your team afloat when you got roster spot limits and you rich that sounds like you shouldn't have oneA "true free market" would inevitably lead to the number of teams being cut in half, and then you'd see all those players who'd make up the remaining teams likely defecting to other leagues across the world (likely taking an overwhelming majority of fans with them).
Clippers would win every single championship for the next decade, and everyone would claim the NBA is dead.

Just because you have money doesnt mean you know how to spend it well. And that woulda been something for the other owners to consider before letting him in.
You talking about the nfl where salaries are not guaranteed and they collude to flat out not pay players money and not pay certain positions?I agree. Jordan , LeBron were way underpaid. These max deals today make it worse. At least in the NFL, there is no cap on the actual salary and individual player can make if it fits underneath the entire team salary cap.
Of course, lesser players like the NBA format, whereas lesser players would not like the NFL format.

He'd literally buy championships.
The NBA season would essentially become Clippers simulating games on easy mode against the other 10-14 teams. It'd completely drain the competitive hold that the league currently has and the players on the bottom teams would just show up to collect a check. You'd only have 2-4 teams who'd be competitive and it'll essentially be a re-run of the same players and same teams every other game.
