The cap goes up with revenues though. With a cap there is also a salary floor.
But it shouldn’t be a cap at all. With a salary cap, some players will never be paid anywhere near their worth. How much do you think a player like Michael Jordan was generating for the bulls? Now compare that with whatever his salary was

I agree. Jordan , LeBron were way underpaid. These max deals today make it worse. At least in the NFL, there is no cap on the actual salary and individual player can make if it fits underneath the entire team salary cap.

Of course, lesser players like the NBA format, whereas lesser players would not like the NFL format.

Keep the cap but eliminate the "max". Have reasonable player minimums

Agreed.

They want people to believe salary caps are good to keep parity in the league but the real reason is to control how much players can be paid.
True.

I think no cap would work well in the NFL. There are so many players that just spending a bunch of money isn't enough. You gotta get guys that fit into the schemes you're running and dudes want playing time. The nature of the game would keep any single team from dominating. I can't have Lamar, Hurts, Allen, Mahomes and Burrow on the same team because they all want to play. Talent will naturally spread out.

Flip side.....it would suck in the NBA. Errbody wants to play in LA/NY/Miami and it only takes a handful of guys to be unstoppable. The franchises with the deepest pockets in big markets would hoard all the talent. Luka, Giannis, Jokic and SGA would all be Lakers, Knicks, Celtics or Heat.

Crazy post. Go look at European soccer if you want to know what the NFL/NBA would look like without a salary cap. Just a handful of teams monopolizing the elite talent and winning the bulk of titles.

The NBA having 7 different Champions in 7 consecutive years would never happen if what y'all are proposing came to fruition. And I'm not sure the NFL would have the same appeal if big market teams like the Cowboys, Pats, Jets, Rams, Giants etc were winning each year because they could simply outspend everybody else.

Bu...bu....but competitive balance. Bu...bu...but collective bargaining. It's bullshyt and we all know it's bullshyt but because we are jealous of athletes, especially hoopers, and more invested in our own entertainment and familiarity we not only let it ride we ride for it like it's not bullshyt.

I don’t give a fukk about no nerd ass arguments for the salary cap. The league or owners have no limit to what they can generate. But there is a limit to what the players can be paid? Sound like a finesse to me.
There should be no salary cap and then profit sharing if they make things more competitive

A salary cap isn't an issue when there's a salary floor attached, that's why NFL and NBA players get more and more of the pie year after year.

No cap leads to the situation in baseball, where it's the Yankees/Dodgers/Mets and a few others paying the piper while 75% of the owners cry poor and spend nothing.
