Don't forget Vince Carter.. he was damn near neck n neck with Kobe at one point. Vince was supposed to be the next Jordan. And he had a firey crash and burn. He was Air Canada/Half Man-Half Amazin' one minute then slightly above bum status the next

No he wasnt:childplease:

The ONLY players in the NBA who, at one point or the other, were ever "neck n neck" with Kobe in that time period were Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady

Vince's best season was 2001 and even THEN he wasnt being talked about with Kobe and Iverson as "who's the best in the NBA".

Did you forget how hyped the 2001 Finals were?:ohhh:

Truth.....

Vince was struggling to outshine Paul Pierce in the East. There was so much great wing play in the East during that period.

I made a thread asking why people hate Kobe for this reason. All stan shyt aside I feel bad that a lot of people are gonna miss out on a HOF career cuz of silly hatred.

na i disagree on both points

vince was never kobe lol

he was nasty as fukk tho

but he never had a crash imo he just got old

his game was his athleticism

once he lost a step he wasnt that superstar but he was still a solid player especially on the nets

Kobe was the first player victimized by the failed "Next MJ" marketing ploy by the NBA and David Stern. I appreciate his game for being "Kobe" and no one else who is always brought up and forced down our collective basketball watching throats for no reason other than people refusing to get over one player. I salute you Kobe and appreciate your game while you play. Others will wait till your career ends to give you your proper respect for being one of the nba greats

Harold Minor? :skip:

To appreciate Kobe's game IS to appreciate MJ even more b/c that's what Kobe has always wanted to be & has modeled his entire game after.

:laff: @ "appreciate is game for being Kobe". What's that? An over aggressive, terrible shot taker who alienates teammates on & off the court? fukk outta here

are you one of those fans who were a victim of both 'kobe and shaq' and 'kobe and pau'??

or is it just a trend online to pick a side of the fence to debate and shyt?

maybe you bored and want to be on the other side of what this thread is about to spark a 4 page debate on how great kobe is..

Obviously the snitching & raping of white women is tops among the list. I didn't see his Italian rapping as a reason, but that should get mention. Alotta you young nikkaz don't remember that Kobe was that corny nikka for the longest time...he didn't become beloved by stans like he is now till Shaq left

But ima keep it basketball for a second so y'all know my reasons for not fukking with this nikka are legit:

1. Calling out a young Bynum in radio interviews over the summer of 07 & then demanding a trade as soon as the following season started. bytch moves franchise players DON'T do.

2. Game 7 in PHX in 06. The nikka quit on his team in what looked like a form of protest. He just chucked up jump shots with no heart. It was almost like he was saying "y'all think y'all can win without me? Lets find out." :youngsabo: And he did absolutely nothing to prevent the loss. Heartless shyt from Kobe

2. Game 6, 08 Finals in BOS. The nikka quit AGAIN. Lakers fans be real for a second. All the nikka would do is jack 3's as the Lakers got routed. He didn't drive or attack & quit on his team. The way he played in that Game 6 was inexcusable & I lost respect for him as a player & competitor.

Besides being a hoe ass nikka & adopting this "a$$hole" persona that clearly ain't him, dude is a phony ass snitchin ass nikka. He's a HOF player no doubt, but he's a bytch. A hoe ass bytch

I am really glad I have my own mind. If you listen to the Kobe riders or the haters you will be all fukked up. There is no denying that Kobe is one of the all-time greats and it's certainly amazing that he is still one of the greats of right now. The MJ comparisons in concert with playing for the Show and having a dominant teammate and great coach and winning rings early on actually benefited Kobe. If the nikka was in Charlotte or NJ and ringless he likely would have caught all kinds of shyt (ala Lebron) but since he he came in to the right situation the MJ comparisons actually boosted him. Let's not forget he was favorably compared to MJ early on even before he warranted it. He gets all kind of love for having a similar mentality and work ethic to MJ. Yeah you have the MJ riders who will hate at every turn but it's not like you don't have Kobe riders doing the same as well. The funny thing is how at odds the Kobe and MJ riders are. So many nikkas that were hardcore MJ haters absolutely adore Kobe and vice versa. shyt is mind boggling. :mindblown:

while I agree about NBA marketing thing, I dont really see how Kobe was 'victimized' by it exactly...I dont think Kobe cares about naysayers and/or Jordan stans. And if he does/did, judging from his nature as a fierce competitor, Id say they only did him good...
Victimized is the wrong word

I think underappreciated by fans and the media is more accurate.

Yeah for a short period around 2000 or 2001 the media tried to compare Vince vs. Kobe and i remember them asking MJ who was better between the two (he picked Kobe). And their numbers were close though Kobe's were always slightly better overall. But its only Vince's fault that he didnt have the will and dedication like a Kobe or AI or MJ to be great.
