Big guys with slow styles aren't frowned upon at late ages. Look at how long these guys were able to be active without being canned. Big Show, Mark Henry, Kane, etc.

Guys like Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin should still be in NXT with the responsibility of carrying shows and being in a big match atmosphere. Joe proved himself far and beyond. NXT has value as a place where fans can see the next WWE main eventers before hand. Similar to the appeal of college football and basketball with players curating a fanbase prior to their pro debut. If Samoa Joe leaves NXT and makes an impact on Smackdown, that only helps NXT, even with him being phased out. NXT has reinforcements coming in in September. They arent Nakamura or Joe, but NXT should be fine

He probably chose to go to NXT and stay for a little bit. He's a big enough name where he could have immediately made the leap to the main roster like AJ Styles.

Joe was ready for the main roster when he left TNA but he's doing his thing in NXT. Keep him there until 2017 and then call him up for the 2017 draft. By that time they'll have someone else in NXT ready to be the main attraction.
