The market has been set for 2014. That doesn't mean giving a CB that type if money is a good idea. It wasn't for the Bucs obviously. Plus Revis has a history of hold outs if he isn't the highest paid player at his position...that's a red flag to teams. Shields doesn't.
Excuses.

Pay DBs $12 to $14 per year and act like your point hasn't been smashed in brehs

And he'll fetch probably $2 to $3 million less elsewhere.
The DB salary market is INCREASING. Sherman is going to see at a minimum $15 mill when it's time to get paid.

Yes...you do pay DBs $16 million
Seattle will probably save money franchising Sherm.

What exactly has been smashed? Revis is getting released because he's overpaid. Sam Shields got 10 mill per- we'll see what Revis gets. I don't think he'll get a long term deal because of his holdout history and ACL.

I expect him to get a deal from a team like the Colts for 2 years 24 million. Revis has postioned himself as a win now player and will take the money on short deals. He becomes a headache otherwise.

We are obviously going to see aquib, Davis and Verner get more than Shields.

It's getting to that magic "you don't pay a DB $16 million a year" rant you've bee whining about since the Revis trade. Now you're calling teams stupid for paying the going market?

The Bucs gave up a pick to pay a player they're going to release. How does this smash my point?

And the Packers overpaid Shields anyway.

If you're the Pats or Broncos and want to give Revis a two year deal I can see that...but he's not seeing a Shields type contract IMO.

Stating the obvious isn't moving the goal posts. You can't look at these contracts in a vacuum. For the Jets and now the Bucs...allocating that much against the cap to a corner isn't good strategy.

Win now teams who struggle defending the pass will over pay guys in the short term.

It's not a good idea, which has been my point. Not "it's never going to happen"

The Asomugha contract is still one of the worst of all time.
