This is a good step, If Spencer doesn't get in any more trouble, the front 7 gonna be scary. The secondary... That's another story.

Yeah.

I know he only had 3.5 sacks last year, but being paired with The Real McCoy/The Predator/Big Spence should open up some pass rushing lanes for him seeing that he will be mostly blocked by the RT alone. Hopefully he gets back or at least close to his 11.5 sacks that had in the 2013 season.

It's not a good idea, which has been my point. Not "it's never going to happen"

The Asomugha contract is still one of the worst of all time.
But paying $19 million to a Stafford goes unquestioned because the qb position garners that type of mistake.
Got it

Add a guy that had 3.5 sacks last season to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense and what do you have?

Potentially one of the best defenses in the NFL.

i

Johnson
That’s what I see after the Bucs came to an agreement with former Cincinnati defensive end Michael Johnson on Tuesday. The five-year, $43 million deal will be finalized after the league year officially begins at 4 p.m.

Johnson’s production was rather ordinary last season, and this might not seem like a big haul for the Buccaneers. But it is. Johnson is capable of producing a lot more than 3.5 sacks, as evidenced by the 11.5 he posted in 2012. He might have been the best edge rusher on the market, and that is something the Bucs sorely need.

Tampa Bay got only 6.5 sacks from its defensive ends in 2013. Plug in Johnson and the pass rush suddenly gets a lot better -- on paper. Heck, the entire defense gets better instantly.

If Johnson can deliver anything close to what he did in 2012, this defense could be elite. The interior of the defensive line is very good with
Gerald McCoy, the linebackers are led by All-Pro Lavonte David, and safeties Dashon Goldson and Mark Barron are well above average.

Adding Johnson to the mix might make Tampa Bay an elite defense.

We need this.

Revis needs to restructure his contract with US so we can keep him.

I don't see the connection here. It's impossible to compare those positions.

key to this league is identifying replacement players that demand less money and let your current guy demanding a big deal walk. Generally the teams that know their roster and the draft... know the guy who's going to replace the "stud" will be almost as good, if not just as good...at half the price.

Bad organizations get trigger happy and overpay kicking the can down the road. The Seahawks and Niners have been built by the latter model. The more good players a roster has- the better(obviously)....depth plus starting quality players at every position > overpaying for a CB.

The teams with the elite QB's who are win now are different though. Brady has only a few years left most likely.

At what point do you not realize that the problem is you?

Regarding what exactly? The best rosters in the league arent giving 29 year old CB's that type of coin. The Pats would do it because they're desperate to get one more before Brady retires....but the younger teams arent going to do it.

the best rosters also arent giving mediocre qbs 16+m deals. that was my whole point.

whats funny is that you identify the key right except are too stubborn to realize that it applies to every position, including qbs

no one is saying revis is a good value,, but if im paying someone 15m +,, it better be an elite player. revis is one. alex mack is one.cutler stafford flacco ryan romo arent.

Bingo.
But what you call stubborn, I call intellectually dishonest because he refuses to admit wrong

What you fail to recognize or see is that the QB is the toughest position to replace at equal or close value. The Seahawks model will still work if that position is locked up. You can only play one QB. They dont get hurt frequently and they impact every offensive snap. QB's dont start to age till their mid to late 30's. Corners fall off at 29-30.
