Scholarships or Compensation. College Athletes can't do both.

TYRONE GA!
This exactly

You're not asking schools to pay them salaries as if they're employees. You're not asking the NCAA to stop being greedy, they can keep hoarding all that cash they rake in. You're solving for the dilemma of how to fairly compensate across different sports and different levels of achievement for the individual players. Just let them take fukking endorsements and profit off their likenesses. Boom done. The ones who have real market value will get handsomely rewarded and the ones who don't won't.

Yup. They making shyt WAY more complex than it needs to be.

But I can "see" how certain schools and boosters would act like jackasses and go overboard paying players to use their image and likeness. Still rather that than anything

Kids on academic scholarships are allowed to work and make money for themselves and their families. Athletes are not. I knew a D1 ball player who got a job at a sneaker store and his coach personally called the manager and said he can't work there.
fukk I forgot about that, they can't do anything period to make money I totally forgot they can't get jobs, invalidates most of what I said

Actually students do get recruited to go to school, plenty of schools send people to high schools and middle schools to talk about the colleges, at UCF we have tours literally every day, and they will email you relentlessly everyday checking up on you and will call in some cases too. For athletes their recruiting is more personal and suited to them but schools go after everyone they can dude, and athletes don't have to pay for anything here regardless, do you know how many fees other students pay for shyt they don't use goes into their tuition?
Thats not really recruiting tho, thats more like marketing. For 99% of students all they really want is your money.

Athletes go for free cuz they actually want the athlete.

Also, the discrepancy between the divisions of colleges AND sport-specific revenue is something that needs to be resolved.

College athletes are asked to do demanding things, but knowing the ones I saw that were in non-major sports OR at D-2 and D-3 schools, they managed to not only thrive but to utilize their scholastic opportunities.

I think there is a role for amateurism and something has to remain in place to highlight that.

...on a side note, I wish US Soccer would allow more younger players to go into club level without attending college first :manny:...we'd be a lot more competitive internationally if we could
You're going to have tell me what is this point of these sports if they can't make money?

Why does a college need a scholarship women tennis team or a male rowing team?

Why do the teams generating money have to cover the expense of all these other sports instead of just playing the players?

What happens to the scholarships for players who enter the draft early?

Most athletic scholarships are only year to year, not for 4 years guaranteed. If they enter the draft or even if they get cut for whatever reason, the money allocated for the scholarship was for only one year so its not like its lost or wasted if an athlete doesn't stay the entire time.

If we're going to go the whole it's an amateur league route, there should be a cap on how much the coaches can make. They don't get paid like amateur coaches. Unless you think 5 million a year is what someone coaching in an amateur league should make.

Also, Coaches get compensation, can make money off their likeness, and enjoy faculty perks all at the same time.
This, I could get with.

A lot of coaches DO NOT need to be making over 3 million a year.

they should put a NCAA cap and share revenues

why the fukk cant they do both?.....before i state my thoughts, i'm wait to hear why you think that, cause you didnt actually state a reason(s)....
cause 99% of everyone else is there to fukking get a degree. :stopitslime:

They're ONLY athletes. They're not fukking super-humans.

Dudes treat athletes like goddamn royalty for some reason.

My dude...theres students out here busting ass to make honor roll and you're upset at your time management cause you chose to pursue 4 years of workouts.

With all the money the universities and the NCAA takes in....yea they can do both:francis:
that argument doesn't make sense.

None at all.

Theres no reason to intrinsically share that revenue. Cause they're already not paying a dime to attend the university. You can't have it both ways. Especially when some of those schools are asking for 20/30/40K a year.

The NCAA makes a lot of money.

And? Thats because of:

1. Football
2. Basketball
3. Baseball

Thats like saying "because you're successful, you HAVE to share the money with players of these 3 sports"....the fukk?

I mean I get the hard-luck tales, but only in college do ya'll try and coddle athletes beyond reproach yet treat any other non-college bound 18 year old as if a grown adult capable of military service.

Which is it?

I personally think there could be some compromise here...this is a huge loophole that needs to get fixed.

I agree with you.
